In this televised program of May 1959 the host, who also turns the score pages for the pianist/composer (who enjoys "singing" the part of the poor "mari", i.e. the hubby) is no less than the famous French musicologist and iconic music critic Benard Gavoty, aka Clarendon.

Ah! ah! ah! ah! ah… Me ferai-j' torero?

@boulayg6 жыл бұрын
@giudiciadanna45505 жыл бұрын

Duval squeaks like a doggie toy while singing this aria. As per usual, composers have no qualms about hiring an inferior singer to sing his/her works and Poulenc was among those, mostly because he (Poulenc) valued Duval's acting ability so highly. But really, this is not acceptable vocally. In fact, Poulenc is in better voice than the soprano.

I think it's a question of style and fashion. But her voice is very suited for Poulenc's humor and irony. I don't enjoy her sound as well but the wit and expressivity is worth it I believe.
