Linda was one funny woman. She had one of the funniest lines on “Sorry, I Haven’t A Clue” when she thanked the audience for applauding her singing and added, “but I’m no Jeremy Hardy”. She’ll be missed.

Many thanx for this post, I trully love Linda Smith and heartily concur, with all the plaudits given her in this fall too short prog. She was a truly original one off comedy star, truly inimitable.

I’d love to have heard Linda’s take on the disastrous 2020; the worst the situation the better the comedy; it would have been sublime.

The thought of Linda being offered a 'Ladies glass' made me giggle as I have a lovely photo of her holding a full pint on a night out in Erith circa 1979. Drunk Delia was sublime. 😂

Linda Smith, just wonderful. Such a wealth of talent on that show. . I do feel that the show now relies on canned audience recordings to generate an atmosphere. This did not seem so prelevente ten to fifteen years ago. That was a golden age with Linda Smith, Alan Coren, and Jeremy Hardy.

Alan Coren was excellent, they all were Linda, and Jeremy and Alan were mainstays of the show, so witty and so quick l was envious of their skill and intellect. I really miss them.

(reply toEmily C Yes, how dare people want their comedy to reflect the makeup of the population? It's a conspiracy!) Selecting comedians by some equal opportunities committee to reflect the makeup of the population makes about as much sense as selecting inventors or composers using the same criteria. Genius and talent cannot be apportioned according to equal opportunity quotas. How dumb can you get.

If God exists, then you better believe Jeremy Hardy and Linda Smith are giving him a piece of their satirical brilliant minds for the bloody mess he made of it all! Everything!! The whole damn lot!!!.... And how the bloody hell dare he take them from us. Gone far too soon. Missing you both so much. Now just gotta live in this worldly mess without their brilliance to make it all seem laughably sane.

Linda Smith, a natural comic genius with a razor sharp wit and no axe to grind. One of the best comedians ever to have taken part in the News Quiz, which for many listeners used to be the highlight of the week. Sadly, since Sandi Toksvig took over it seems many of the current crop of guests seem to have come out of some equal opportunity directive from within the BBC to ensure women/minority groups have equally allotted exposure on air, regardless of comic ability or wit. It has become so obviously biased, grievance-centric, uberPC and predictable now, and with Jeremy Hardy now officially classed as an old woman, some weeks we are lucky to get even one genuine comic on the panel. Andy Hamilton's occasional appearance is the one saving grace.

+the bobbs Couldn't agree more. Glad that Toksvig's gone now though. Generally the BBC are discovering that PC comedy isn't funny at all.....

I see a lot of people wishing things like (paraphrasing): she is laughing with Hardy, Coren, Tim Brooke et al. Caution: she did not believe in an afterlife or the accompanying belief in God. But good wish though….
