Great video….thank you John. So much so that I bought Loopy HD. I have one simple stupid question..I have a Boss Katana Go. I have a direct wired connection into my iPhone Lightning port. I am not able to select this as an audio input source in Loopy HD. It is only using the external mic. So, it is me, it is a bad cable. I guess the simple question is: A: Does Loopy HD auto detect an audio source, or B: Do you have to tell Loopy HD where to listen to the audio source. And if so….where in Loopy HD do you make this selection. Thanks again for your time John. Cheers. Note: I have use front mic off.

Nice video. Can you explain how to use the metronome count in feature.
@JohnPaulMusicUK4 жыл бұрын
Hey 👋 To use the count in feature with a metronome what you will have to do is set the tempo. To do this swipe the orange bar until you get to the tempo and time signature section. You can tap the required tempo and loopy HD will then set it. At this point you can turn on the metronome and you should be able to hear it clicking away. When you are ready to make a recording of your first loop, tap the circle of the first empty loop and it will count you in with the orange indicators around the outside of the circle. You can set the metronome to carry on all the way through the track or only for the first loop so it will then disappear after the first recording. you can also change the sound of the metronome in the settings. Hope that helps and I’ve made that clear. 👍🏻
@l8b4994 жыл бұрын
This is great tutorial - I’m trying to use this for guitar and it’s proving to be a nightmare in hitting record and then playing. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to have a ‘count in’ before it records. I’ve enabled it in settings but no dice! Any advice? Cheers
@tronlady14 жыл бұрын
I’m the same! I’ve been struggling with it for years!!!
@JohnPaulMusicUK4 жыл бұрын
Hello 👋 Sorry I took so long to answer this. You have to set the tempo first on a blank session.. then With all tracks empty, tap the start (triangle) and the metronome starts. Tap an empty track and it will show the flashing count-in. Depending on when during the 4 beats you tap the track, you may only get a couple of beats, as it will start on the next one count. So to get the maximum of the 4 beat count-in, tap it between a 4 and a 1 count and you'll get the full four counts before recording starts ( if that make sense).

I work with choirs and would be interested to know how I might make this work for rounds ie loops starting at different points. Can you help?
@JohnPaulMusicUK3 жыл бұрын
The trick with doing rounds is start the loop at the same point (12 ‘o’clock) but just delay the vocals until they are meant to come in. That would work. The only thing about that would be that if you were switching loops on and off then they would re-start at the wrong time or part way through.. The other way is to turn off synchronise tracks in Settings - Track management. That way you can record when you need to.
@benandsaw693 жыл бұрын
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Thank you! I'll try those things. Instinct tells me that turning sync off would be the thing to do as I would imagine there'd be a chunk of silence at the start of the loop otherwise. I'll have a play and let you know!

Please keep me informed. 👍🏻
@benandsaw693 жыл бұрын
@@JohnPaulMusicUK Easier than I thought. I tried it without the sync on but it was tricky to line up. The solution was to keep my 8 bar loops (or whatever the round length), cue the next loop whilst singing the previous one then just hit the new loop again when I wanted to start. In other words, a double tap overrides when the clock is and you just start recording when you want without waiting for the clock to get to 12. I hope that makes sense.

It certainly does. Great bit of experimenting there Ben. Nice work! 👍🏻 I hope to hear some cool rounds.

Midi will send command signals to the iPad like which keys you have pressed and when but won’t send the actual sounds of your keyboard audio to the iPad. My setup: Loopy HD on Ipad Iconnectivity audio 4+ as interface with four preamps and 10 channels In ear monitors Studio monitors/PA when live 4 inputs, 2xmic, guitar, bass Audiobus 3 to run thumbjam etc. So how can I have a click track that is in sync with Loopy HD or ideally is generated by Loopy HD but is only sent to my personal monitor channel, not the PA channel. How can I create multiple output channels and rout them accordingly?

The only thing I can think is using an external metronome that syncs to Loopy HD and routing the output to the ears.. try this app : appsto.re/us/XxCH-.i The Metronome by Soundbrenner as it can sync with Ableton Link. I haven’t used it myself but could work as a separate click track for you. Hope that helps

Great Tutorial! Can you recommend a similar Looping app for android? I have students that are not iOS users.

look for ‘Looper’, ‘Audio Looper’ & ‘Loop Stack’ on the google play store. Hope this helps. 👍🏻

do you recommend this over the L7?
@JohnPaulMusicUK3 жыл бұрын
it totally depends on what you are doing and how interactive you are with the screen when looping. I have setup a midi pedal with Loopy HD and can use it live with guitar and vocals, however its also down to what you like when it comes to the user interface. L7 has grown and grown and grown and is probably more up to date but Michael who makes Loopy HD has been teasing a Loopy Pro version for some time now. I would say have a play with both and its still cheaper than any hardware looper!! Here's that video about using the pedal with Loopy HD kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKS4YYGjjcuMe6c

@@JohnPaulMusicUK mainly for beatboxing live, maybe a guitar as well
@JohnPaulMusicUK3 жыл бұрын
If it’s beatboxing, maybe consider L7 as it has live effects built in for both effecting the loop or the main mix which Loopy HD doesn’t but you can import live effects via an app like audiobus. But have a look at this and then you can decide - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooi8l6Sgec-inJY

no way for a "non tempo" context with different lenght loops not in sinc?
@JohnPaulMusicUK2 жыл бұрын
There is.. sort of.. you just have to ignore the tempo system and turn off metronome etc.

Try using a Bluetooth controller or even a Bluetooth computer keyboard ⌨️ to make selectable buttons. 👍🏻 Loopy HD is really powerful. Alternative app - try Quantiloop Pro. Really like a famous looper but more flexible with more options!
