I average around 14-15 seconds with a PB of 9.79 Seconds. The key to getting better is not just practice, it is DELIBERATE practice. Just solving the cube a whole bunch of time will only get you so far. If you wish to get better, then you need to deliberately practice on specific things like look-ahead, finger tricks, optimising solutions etc.

The last challenge is the _perfect_ example of all knowledge, and no practice. Because it's different, you're not used to it. "Shortcuts" such as looking for the white corner don't work the same because you need to remind yourself what your cross color is, especially if the color schemes are not standard setup, or even standard colors. An easier example of this is when you try to become color neutral, or even dual neutral. When you're used to white cross, and you do yellow cross, you can end up placing Red/Blue into the Red/Green slot because that's what you're used to.
@softwarelivre2389

I always solved my cube as color neutral for that very specific reason. I'm not fast, but I'm flexible.

@@krishkalra756 I admit I have a preference for blue, red and orange. I rarely start with green, white or yellow for some reason. I think it is because I have a harder time finding those pieces due to lower contrast between them on my cube. Gotta practice that.

I actually think the last “bonus challenge” definitely demonstrates an important point that’s super relevant to this video: the first handful of challenges were all knowledge/zero practice, the first bonus challenge was very little knowledge/lots of practice, and the last bonus challenge was tons of knowledge AND tons of practice *except* the time you spent practicing on a normal cube to gain quick recognition was suddenly not useful. You couldn’t just transfer your recognition to the new color scheme. It demonstrates how important training your brain to recognize the color patterns on the cube is. How do you do that? Yep, you guessed it, practice! Really cool, informative video, thanks Dylan!
@ImmortalKnightCubing
@ImmortalKnightCubing 2 жыл бұрын
For three sides challenge ,you can solve the cube normally till OLL , and then instead of one looking the pll,use the A perm algorithm by keeping the headlights on back so that you end up with any one of the U-perms, pretty sure that would have been way faster!
@raininq3767
@raininq3767 2 жыл бұрын
That’s 2-Look PLL where you do 2 algorithms to solve PLL. The problem is, these two alga are quite long and recognition between the two does build up, which is why 1-Look PLL is better because it combines recognition and 1 algorithm of decent length, plus the algorithms can be adapted to your feel and solving, whereas 2-Look has fixed algorithms.
@ImmortalKnightCubing
@ImmortalKnightCubing 2 жыл бұрын
@@raininq3767 yes I know that’s 2 looking, but the job is to just solve 3 sides ,so we just gotta do an APerm once from the correct position and stop the timer. Till OLL part , Dylan can easily do that in 6 or so seconds , and this in the worst case takes two or three seconds more , so he essentially would solve the cube(3 sides) in approximately 9 secs

Got a 58 once and an average of 1:34 in 7 days using the beginner method. lucky random f2l cases randomly popping into place without deliberate construction also helped and solving the middle layer is fun when all the pieces needed to make the second layer whole, are already there but in the wrong spot is a joy to work at because I can look at the piece coming out and instantly realize which color it corresponded to. Using a Bluetooth cube like the i2,i3 really helped me understand cube notations and made it easier to learn algorithms by glancing at motion lines and reading cube notations

alt color schemes is what you should probably practice then. I have had a few cubes, and all have taught me what I know AND really what I don’t know. then I migrated to pushing myself to do every solve in a different start (color). shows very interesting patterns and color combinations (in the solve) sometimes. columns first. that’s a new one on me.

Columns first seems like an ok method. Columns in 2 seconds, centers 0.5, edges 3 to 4, top layer alg 0.5. You would need a bit of practice to reach these but and they are complete guesses based on me trying slowly without actually looking at the method. For it to be effective you would need every pll skip from oll alg.

You know, the restriction was not to solve all the sides to complete 3, 4, or 5 sides. But you could still solve the cube entirely, and perform some kind of J perm, or T perm to mess up a few sides to have a faster time. Maybe solve all sides, but make a 2-swap of three top layer edges for 3 sides. For permutation only, maybe do a full solve, and make a superflip.

Hey J Perm, I’m relatively new to cubing but I had an idea for a competition. I’m not sure if its been done before or not. Nor do I know the likeliness of you even seeing my comments but here goes. The competition would be… Either a blind solve or a minimum inspection time to see who can solve the cube in the fewest moves. Everyone gets the same scramble and every round is a new (but same for everyone) scramble to see who can consistently solve in the least amount of moves possible. 1 try each round top times move to next round sorta like 64>32>16>8>4>2>1 elimination. Time could be used for tie breakers.

To add as a thing to the beginner method potential, I practiced beginner method for a year, taking it from my 2:40 first speed solve to my actual PB of 33.58 seconds (I got this PB 5 years ago, it still is my fastest time) EDIT: I recently broke this PB with a 30.45 in a homemade competition at Salsipuedes!

The simplest explanation is because you’re not used to it. You are used to solving all sides of the cubes so many times it becomes muscle memory, it’s like switching from kbm to controller

I am colorblind and have problems with color/pattern recognition. Is there a way to get better at this or is there a cube with really defined red/green/orange colors or a color scheme that works better for colorblind people?

Hey Dylan, don't know if u would see this but i was hoping u would make a tutorial about how to solve a mirror cube with all the face being pictures (meaning the pieces is a mixture of multiple colours/paterns). I know how to solve a regular mirror cube but I just don't know how to orient the directions of the pictures so that it appears back to how it was. Thanks.

An idea for a challenge: go from an unsolved state to an only-double-turn-solvable state (so all opposite colors on both sides), and maybe to add a layer of complexity go to an only-double-turn-solvable state where at least one of the sides has a specific pattern on it

I posted this on adifferent vid, but.. I'm new to cubing. Is there any good suggestions on a nice smooth cube? Every one I've owned were basically the old school ones that always lock up and were hard to turn. Note: I went on to speed cube shop and currently have the cosmic GAN 11M Pro in the cart. The page says I'm qualified for the free express delivery, but the delivery selection does not reflect that. How do I get the free shipping applied? And, is this a good start or should I look somewhere else?

my first speedcube had that colourscheme, it was SUPER fast that when i switched to the cube you recommended, the Rs3 M 2020 i was kind of sad that the cube wasnt as fast as my old one and that if you made it looser so that itll be the same speed as my old speed cube itll be really flimsy, but unlike the old speedcube i own it had really good corner cutting. I wouldve liked a faster cube tho
