currently already playing Omega Ruby with a pure bug team and it isn't as bad as you would think, the only problem is HM's really, no available bug learns any of the water HMs. Roxanne is easily dealt with through beautifly's grass draining attacks and surskit's bubblebeam (though you do need to lvl to 17 for that), Brawly is a pushover and by the time you get to mauville I had a shedinja which only his voltorb could do anything against. On top of all that, OrAs makes it easier with the dexnav, letting you get a surskit with hydropump if you so desire for instance

The strongest bug type moves in gen 1 are pin missile and twin needle which are either on Pokémon with weak attack or Pokémon that aren’t very good so bug is still the worst even if the type chart says otherwise
@moblinmajorgeneral3 жыл бұрын
For Parasect, *use Spore* . Seriously, use it. If you can survive a hit, take the hit and Sleep stuff with it. Gen I sleep is way overpowered, and although Leech Life is super weak, the game is _not_ equipped to deal with you actually having a Bug move later into the game. If there's any Bug worth using outside of mechanics abuse, it's Parasect.
@thebestworst80023 жыл бұрын

Dishonorable mentions: Gen I: Rock. The reasons are numerous, from Rock Throw having 30 less accuracy in Gen I, only having 1 Rock Slide TM, being 4x weak to Grass and Water until Cinnabar Island, and most having awful Special, anyway. And it doesn't get better over time. Gen II: Bug. I feel like this one is self-explanatory, although Heracross in HGSS does give it the edge over grass. Hoenn: Poison. Don't let Crobat fool you, Poison in Hoenn is torturous. Wattson has a Magneton, Flannery has a Camerupt in Emerald, and Tate & Liza you flatout lose to. And there's no Grass specialist to make it better. Sinnoh: Fire. Highly limited pool (especially in DP) and 3 specialists with a steep advantage against you, as well as the scariest Pokemon in the game.
@jjc49243 жыл бұрын
About Gen. 4; Platinum fixes that by adding more Fire types. And I would switch Poison into Fire that's the worst to use in Gen. 3.

@@jjc4924 Fair on both points
@ulisesarmenta81553 жыл бұрын
@@jjc4924 It depends in whicho Hoenn game you are playing. In RS and ORAS, Fire is useful against Steven at the end. In Emerald, Wallace will destroy any fire type in your team. But you are right, in Hoenn fire types arent that needed. A fighting type is much better for a playthrough. I can make a case that Blaziken have better match ups with its fighting typing beyond the first gym.
@Hyperneosonic973 жыл бұрын
I hard disagree in Rock being the dishonorable in Gen 1, simply because all of the Rock-types are also Ground-types, and Rock-types also have a great matchup against the second-best type in Gen 1, that being the Normal-type. They also completely and utterly DESTROY Agatha and Koga, and Lance doesn't fare exceedingly well against them either due to his flying-heavy team (though it's a toss up regarding Gyarados), and the Rival also heavily dislikes the Rock-type, with at least two of his Pokemon being weak to them (and likely three), those being Pidgeot, his Fire-type, and, if you didn't pick Charmander, Gyarados. I'd also somewhat disagree with Fire being the dishonourable for gen 4, even in DPPt, because one of those fire-types happens to be the absolutely amazing Chimchar line, which renders Roark a moot point, though Wake and Bertha are still kinda tough. Completely dumping on Aaron is a bonus, though!
@rjba023 жыл бұрын
@Muhammad Ali Imran im sorry but your points don’t really work. You mention vileplume as a good option but that’s not because it’s a poison type, it’s because it’s a grass type. If it were just grass type, it would likely do better overall. For starters, instead of being destroyed by tate & liza, it would actually destroy them without poison. Also the defense about muk, weezing and swalot having a good move pool and tentacruel being fast doesn’t really matter. Lots of other pokemon also have good movepools and/or are faster. Sure you can use poison types if you want, not saying they’re bad, it’s just that if you do use them, the fact that they’re poison type is not the main reason you want to use them.

The first time I ever played pokemon, I was on SoulSilver. And, knowing pretty much nothing about the pokemon I was picking from, I picked Chikorita. And I never regretted it, no matter how hard I inadvertently made it on myself. Chicky, as I named the poor thing, is one of my favorite starters that I've ever raised.
@shestewa65813 жыл бұрын
Chikorita was my first starter on OG Silver, but I ended up getting frustrated as a stupid kid not understanding pokemon that I restarted and chose Typhlosion and pretty much used it + Lugia for everything. A few years later when I understood how types and moves worked I did it again with Chikorita and had way more fun. Meganium is good but most people don't get how to use it properly. Meganium in Radical Red gets part fairy type and the "triage" ability - meaning that all healing moves (giga drain, synthesis etc) get +1 priority. It's really cool. My favourite pokemon other than Togetic.

Gonna take a wild guess and say psychic for gen 7. Despite getting some pretty decent Pokemon like alolan raichu, there’s a lot of pain to be had, especially in ultra sun and moon. Let’s see you’ve got either a gumshoos or raticate both with bite, the bug type Araquanid with the buffed leech life, alolan marowak with hex, totem lurantis with x scissor, vikavolt in vanilla sun and moon with bug bite, mimikyu with Shadow claw and leech life as well as battles with Guzma, Nanu and Acerola. It’s a pretty bad time for psychic. Literally the only saving grace for the trials is that you can get a malamar which you can teach topsy turvy to make the totem Pokemon easier.

A team of Dustox, Beautifly, Volbeat, Illumise, Ninjask and Shedinja might actually be viable here, though probably still pretty hard.

Hello! Just wanted you to know there were a couple of inaccuracies in the matchup/location chart for types. Psychic types can be acquired before Misty. Route 24 to the north has Abra in RB, Abra is in Route 6 in Yellow and LGPE, and Drowzee is on Route 11 in all games. In LGPE, Steel types can be acquired before Erika by trading a Diglett for an Alolan Diglett in Lavender Town (and a Sandshrew in Celadon if you're playing Pikachu). In LGPE, Ice types can be acquired before Erika with the Celadon trade either being Alolan Sandshrew in Pikachu or Alolan Vulpix in Eevee. Psychic types can be caught before the first gym in Johto, there are Unown in the Ruins of Alph. Fairy types can be encountered before Bugsy by hatching the Togepi egg. And in GS, Jigglypuff is a rare encounter on Route 46, so before Falkner. In Crystal, Ice types can be acquired directly after Bugsy. The Odd Egg has a chance to hatch into Smoochum, so with a few resets you could get an Ice type pretty early. Finally, you can get a Ghost type before Roxanne. Nincada can be found on Route 116 and evolved into Shedinja. It is a bit of a grind to Level 20, but it isn't the worst. This isn't to say the video is bad! I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the next part. Also, this isn't a comprehensive list, just what I picked up on that would be (reasonably) possible.

Correction about gen 1: Beedrill wrecks Erika. Bug is also super effective against Poison in gen 1. All Grass / Poison mons are 4x weak to Bug moves. So Twinneedle wrecks her big time. Didn't test my Beedrill against Koga, yet. Agreed with the rest tho.

If you take all eight currently existing versions of the Kanto games (Red, Blue INT/Green, Blue JP, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, Let's Go Pikachu, Let's Go Eevee) into account, Bug is still the worst for Kanto. Beedrill does fairly well against Sabrina in the remakes with the correct strategy. Source: FlygonHG, who did a mono Poison run on FRLG and had a Beedrill, who swept Sabrina by taking out Kadabra with Twinneedle then setting up one Agility before knocking out Mr. Mime and then outspeeding and OHKOing Alakazam before taking down Venomoth.

Its interesting that Psychic was one of your runners up for worst type in gen 3. The thing is that you have Ralts and Abra early who evolve into pure powerhouses. It doesn't matter that Psychic isn't great (Gardevoir can learn some great coverage). If you are stuck with average psychic types I'd agree that they suck.

my butterfree did well against posion and fighting type pokemon with confusion and helped me defeat sabrina easier by putting her abra kadabra and alakazam to sleep allowing me to switch into nidoking and destroy them all with body slam before they woke. it even defeated bruno's hitmonlee and hitmonchan and 1 of agatha's 2 genghars I'm talking about my butterfree from my last yellow playthrough which I used as a main team member the only main move I had it use was confusion but I did have it use sleep powder against Sabrina's abra kadabra and alakazam and defeated her with nidoking. I used it through the whole playthrough my team was pikachu butterfree victrebell primeape and nidoking I never got past agatha I broke my phone 1 day and had to get a new 1 and never beat that copy but it was still fun to play though.

I need to call something. While Bug was weak to Poison in Gen 1, Poison was also weak to Bug. This meant that every Pokémon in the Celadon Gym (except for Tangela) was quad weak to Bug. This doesn't change the overall result, but I still feel it was worth noting.

I feel like Fire should get an honorable mention in (non-platinum) gen 4. They have a few nice matchups, but unless you picked the fire starter, you're not exactly drowning in Fire types to choose from!
@anothergamer1123 жыл бұрын
I'd honestly give Johto to Dark type. Why? You can't even use it! There are five dark types in Johto (Umbreon, Murkrow, Houndour, Sneasel, and Tyranitar). Four are only available in Kanto, two of which can only be gotten after getting all 16 badges. If you evolve the gift Eevee into anything other than Umbreon and don't breed it, you are completely blocked off of using any dark types until post game. EDIT: I learned Sneasel can be found in the Ice Path....in only Crystal.

I actually did a Mono-Bug run in Alpha Sapphire and it was surprisingly not that bad. Then again with the additional moves added for Bug Pokémon in later generation made the game pretty smooth. The biggest challenges were Flannery(Masquerain doesn’t really do much even with Bubble Beam) Winona(I actually had to backtrack to get Anorith but even then her Altaria is still overwhelming to deal with) and unshockingly, the Elite 4 aside from Sydney. My team was Mega Heracross, Dustox, Illumise, Armaldo, Masquerain, and Shedinja as I found that they were the best Bug Pokémon you can use in the Horn region.
@jjc49243 жыл бұрын
I would also add Fire being worst types to use in Gen. 3 because; besides the Torchic line, none of them; old or new, aren't that good. There isn't that many Fire types to capture and there's so many Water type Pokemons in Hoenn that's just to much to handled. About 4 or 5 out of 8 Gym Leaders can beat them out easily. Such as Roxanne ( if you choose Torchic ), Flannery ( including her Camerupt because it's part Ground type ), Winona ( if only you have Combusken & Blaziken out since there part Fighting types and not even Marcargo that; despite being part Rock type that has the advantage against Flying types, will have an hard time because of it's poor stats, Altaria and maybe another one can learn Earthquake ), the Psychic twins because of Lunatone & Solrock ( and both Combusken & Blaziken will have troubled because again; they're part Fighting types ) and Juaz ( or Wallace if your playing Ruby & Sapphire only ). 3 out of Elite Four can beat it down that have the super advantage; which are the Dragon Elite Four, an Ghost Elite Four beacuse her 2 Dusclops learns Earthquake and even the Ice type Elite Four since 3 of them are part Water types. And I don't know how well they do with the Champion Steven if your playing Ruby & Sapphire only. But in Emerald; they'll definitely will have trouble with Champion Wallace since your fighting another Water type specialist.
@bulborb87562 жыл бұрын
yeah, fire does struggle quite a lot in Hoenn due to the sheer mass of water, and yeah aside from blaziken and MAYBE camerupt, the rest of the flames aren't anything to write home about as fire loses to Roxanne, Tate & Liza as well as Wallace on top of being useless against Team Aqua, however they do have a good performance against Glacia and Steven which is sadly their only good match up (however Glacia is an issue due to her having a couple water types)

I love the fact that I decided that for my first playthrough of Silver (on the virtual console), I was gonna use Chickorita because it was literal garbage, I didn't really like tododile at the time, and my Crystal save had cyndaquil as my starter. I even named the save after the typing of the starter. (And, no, the trainer name wasn't grass. It was Rye.)I adored that save, and have no recolection on how the heck I beat the first gym, as I know I didn't overlevel, or even catch another pokemon. What was I doing? The save is fun though.

I’m currently doing a grass monotype on SoulSilver just because I knew that it was hard, and I have definitely had to take at least two tries for most of the gym battles so far (I’ve gotten through Whitney). Fire is the useless type in diamond/pearl. It was the most needed type through the entire story, yet, we only got 2 fire types, and both super fragile sub par Pokemon, and they are a no go in some gyms like rock and water, and a steep road with the elite 4 except aaron

Tangrowth is definitely the MVP in that run, even though you can't really use him until victory road without overlevelling. Ancient power comes in clutch against almost all grass weaknesses

Realistically gyms 4 and 7 can be conquered with not much difficulty, you just have to have good situational awareness considering you're at a defensive disadvantage.
