Oasis have said, they were very influenced by the Beatles and I would say they were the equivalent of the Beatles in the 90s. You might have heared the music in any Netflix shows. Netflix uses so so many British songs in there programs as backing music or at the end with the credits. Tom Cruse uses a some too in his films.

I loved The Verve .(Still do actually) but despise Oasis. Verve are kinda like a blend between Zeppellin Rolling stones and pink Floyd! Oasis are like a bad pub band Beatles tribute act.

As others have said, during the 90s “Britpop” era there was strong rivalry between Blur and Oasis. I myself was in the Blur camp. You might want to listen to some Blur. Parklife is perhaps Blur’s best-known song. Others like Girls and Boys, Country House and Beetlebum are also worth a listen.

I recommend "don't look back in anger" by Oasis. If you get the music video it also features the late, great Patrick Macnee as the black taxi driver and he pops up throughout the video. He played British secret agent John Steed (a sort of James Bond figure) in the 1960s and 70s TV series 'The Avengers' famous for his trademark bowler hat, umbrella and vintage Bentley car. He became a cult figure, as did the TV series because of their unique visual styles, and so was also used in another British music video, this time for a group called the 'The Pretenders'. The song is called "Don't get me wrong", another good song. Lead singer, Chrissie Hines, was a fan of the visual style of the old TV series and recreated it for the music video. The real John Steed ( there are some imposters trying to trick her) doesn't appear until the end in merged 1960's footage from the TV series.

Joel… what a guy! I love watching you but have not commented before. Hopefully this is the start of you heading down an Oasis rabbit hole which should lead to their Maine Road gig in 1996. They were huge and are the soundtrack to my teens and early 20’s with most songs ‘placing me somewhere’ from years gone by. Their Masterplan album is made of of B tracks and is better than many bands hits. Enjoy! 😊

Hi Joel, great start to the day. I wasn't a fan as such of Oasis but the album this came off - What's the story morning glory is a masterpiece. It was perfect for the time - mid 90's explosion of Brit pop guitar bands. If you only listen to that album you would be blown away. They had success before this with a few Brit pop classics on the album before. Liam the lead singer and Noel the lead guitarist are brothers. They never got on and since Oasis ended they went their separate ways🤦 Both are still making music. Listen to Don't look back in anger, cast no shadow, champagne supernova and roll with it. ❤️

Brings back memories of my first year at University in my Halls (dorms in US). I lived with 11 other guys. Half were Oasis, half were Blur. It got to the point where we had 2 separate social groups based on Oasis/Blur preference. Both were massively popular in the mid to late 1990’s. Another from that era for me was British rapper Mike Skinner from “The Streets”. IMO his lyrics are genius.

This was written by Noel Gallagher & is a love song to his then girlfriend Meg Matthews. They went on to marry & had a daughter, Anais, but later divorced. Noel & Liam (the singer) are brothers & Noel is the guitarist. The brothers did nothing but fight have been estranged for years. They now have their own separate successful careers. They didn't break the US because of their bad behaviour whilst over there, but they were massive in the UK. Liam in particular is still really popular.

The song is essentially a love song. But it wasn't written as a love song to his then partner, but rather as a love song to himself. It's about finding your way back to loving yourself. Finding the inner strength and listening to the inner voice that's trying to lead you to better self-esteem. He said in an interview that rather than an inner voice he thought of it as an imaginary friend coming to save you. As for the references, "The road is winding" means it won't be a straight forward journey. "The lights are blinding" means he can't see the road ahead. It's a great song as is, but once you understand the meaning behind the lyrics it takes on a whole new, very dark meaning.

There are so many Oasis songs to choose from - I would recommend Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, Stop Crying Your Heart Out - and one my daughter used to sing for her then boyfriend, now husband - The Importance of Being Idle. He was a lazy teenager who went on to become a hard-working construction site manager who proved us all wrong!

I was always more of a Blur fan than Oasis. Oasis and Blur had this rivalry in the 90s. Both pivotal bands from the BritPop era, with Oasis from Manchester (‘up north’) and Blur from London (‘down south’). It culminated with the release of a single by both groups (Roll With It by Oasis and Country House by Blur) as to which would reach the top of the charts. Blur won in the end. I do like Oasis though and they were hugely important to the British music scene.

I hated Oasis with a vengeance. The bloke can't even sing, and both brothers are nasty bigheads. I remember seeing Damon on TV once, with Oasis trying to look menacing in the background, and failing dismally. I think he was hosting Top Of The Pops, and had to introduce them.

@@barrymitchell6444 The Gallagher brothers do neatly wear that egotistical cloak. But I think that’s just what it is: a cloak. The bad boy image suits them and their record sales; it’s their brand. They’re probably real softies at heart. Whereas I don’t think Damon and the rest of Blur felt they needed to put on that facade. Possibly a little cocky but that was it.

One of my teenage bands Doc, you gotta listen to Masterplan "or The Masterplan" by Oasis this believe it or not was not even a cover track! The 90's rocked for the quality of music.

Great band, with so many great tunes! I could change my mind everyday, but today, I’d say: Best vocals = Slide Away Most indicative of their sound = Morning Glory Best Music = The Masterplan (different singer) In fact, fuckit, go live! Slide Away live at Glastonbury 1995 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2XSg2qYq56efJI

Hello Joel. I often hear said that this is like a Beatles copy, but it makes me think of Supertrooper from ABBA. I prefer "Don't Back in Anger" which whole pubs would sing along to if on the jukebox. The local band from my time in Manchester was James. Just as I had left university Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets seemed to just go national in no time. When I first got there the big local band had been The Smiths and New Order were big having reformed from Joy Division. You should look at the "Madchester" scene.
