So obviously could afford to pay someone to look after her Mother. That people shouldn't need financial aid to look after their elderly Relatives. Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Roman 1:18-22 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools. Not saying this with a hateful heart but you really need to humble yourself and repent, because if you were honest with yourself you know God exists. You know you have fallen short and the only way to be forgiven is through surrendering yourself to Jesus. When you stand before God you will have no excuse - you will not be able to say to Jesus you were never given an opportunity to know Him. I get it, this message sounds restrictive and offensive but that's because our sinful flesh is opposed to God. Jesus really is the only way and if I didn't care i would have kept this to myself in fear of rejection. I'll leave this with you, the choice is yours. God bless.

Religion is indeed the problem. Stephen is very careful to differentiate religion from spirituality. He is not contrary to the belief in [insert belief here], only in it's use as a method of control, and he is absolutely right. There is much wisdom to be gleaned from the reading and contextualisation of the many ancient religious texts. There is also a great deal of bias and rubbish. One must view these things for what they are. They are a snapshot of what somebody considered "morality" at a particular point in time. The good ideas need to be filtered out and applied in the context of modern society. Only then does the wisdom of the past become decoupled from the ignorance of the past. Otherwise they are just bundles of stories that are as much to our detriment as our benefit.

Stephen Fry's first point about ancient humans not understanding the natural forces of the earth that are beyond our control, and assigning gods to explain them, and rituals to give them a sense of some control over uncontrollable forces is a revelation i came to on my own several years ago. The human mind abhors an unsolved puzzle and when we don't have an answer to explain something, we create an explanation until the day comes where it is actually explained. The issue we have now is there are people/religions that still push their old explanations and gods as truth were we now have hard, verifiable science that explains and defines in very real terms what their scriptures claims was the doing of their god(s). What's worse is when religious people who believe the mythos and not the science are in a position of power and authority to create or approve laws and do so according to their beliefs despite the will of the people and not in alignment with the real science. Its people who do this that keep us from advancing forward faster than we are now, intellectual dead weight holding humanity back.

Thanks for this. Fry has brought so much laughter and happiness through his acting we sometimes forget the devastating truths of which he is capable. I hope you saw the end of the debate on the motion that the Catholic church was a force for good in the world. There was a vote taken as people were arriving and about a third of them agreed with the motion or declared they were undecided. A second vote, taken at the end, destroyed the motion. Of the 2,000 present, there was barely a handful who voted in favour, and the undecided vote had shrunk to a level which a professional statistician would call "a small aberration which can be discounted". Fry turned out to be a greater force for good than all the legions of the Catholic church. It's heartening to know that church attendances in the USA are falling daily. There is something disgusting and obscene about these deranged, ignorant millionaires, hectoring the poor and ill-educated people who fill their megachurches and arguing that god really wants him to have a second private jet "to spread the good news". The news is beginning to dawn, slowly, that it's bad news. They are being ripped off by these ranting, lying, blustering, fraudulent, tax-dodging clowns. More power to your elbow!

I think Stephen himself described the nature of his debate as the "Oxford way of playing nicely with ideas" I've always thought that this is the ultimate social accomplishment that one should aspire to. Beyond 'freedom of speech' or the dubiously fact-checked no-man's-land, there is a Hilbert space where humans can engage without prescribed agendas! Fry owns this space seemingly without effort, though it must have taken a lifetime of study to get there.

I'm so glad I found you, just by chance! As an American married to a British, I really enjoy all of your videos! Steven Fry is just an amazing person. I enjoyed all of his videos as well! Keep up the great work!

i am a atheist as i don't believe in religion of any kind. Stephen Fry is in theses video clips is spot on on what he says. i do believe that religion is the root of most not all of the evil in this world.

We share most opinions and its hilarity. Stephen Fry is a brilliant, cultured, educated person of much wisdom. He is also a close personal friend to King Charles. He's a recovering non-drinking alcoholic and is married to a younger man.

The problem is that for things we still don't know, religion doesn't answer those either. They replace the mystery with an even bigger mystery. (e.g. A god) and without any evidence. So the honest things to say when confronted with something currently unexplained is to say "I don't know".

Stephen Fry is a national treasure. A legend. Don't get me started on my beliefs about religion, I could go on for hours. As an allegory, the real danger of complimentary medicine is that it stops people from seeking a treatment that actually works. That's all I have to say.

Love, love, love Stephen Fry. I'd love to see your reaction to "Stephen Fry on God: The Meaning of Live (RTE One)". Interesting how you feel the need to preface the video reaction with so much tip-toeing around other people's sensibilities. It wouldn't even occur to me to do that in the UK, so I'm guessing this is a US thing where religion is so much more all-pervading?

Suppose if there was a label then I would be classed as an Atheist. I respect that other folk choose differently, I ask for that respect back. Unfortunately many religious people think we all should believe no matter what.

You're 100% right about Stephen Fry. I'm 67 and I love this gentleman. He's is so eloquent, well-spoken, intelligent and empathetic ! Real humanist !

Whether you agree or disagree with him, you have to respect the hell out of him. He's the master of words, everything he says has sense and meaning behind it, even if you dont agree with it

@@AlBundyOz More empty name-calling with zero argument. All main religions have been subverted over the years and destroyed from the inside. How many realise for instance that the black cube at Mecca actually represents Saturn otherwise pronounced Satan?! I'm afraid you dont know what you're talking about Bundy -- please stop embarassing yourself. I've done years and years of research

Stephen Fry is bang on, as a gay man I tend to stay from the church or political stuff. Even though there are nice people in it. But I won’t belong to any cult which I believe these institutions are.

For the child rape stuff, please watch the critically acclaimed movie Spotlight. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2015. At the very end they list 100’s of churches found to have violated children in the US and across the world.

We Aussies are generally not particularly religious, but don't mind what others believe as long as they don't push it on others. Infiltration of evangelical religion into politics has been a feature of our politics over the last decade or so. Thankfully though, we may have turned the corner there ... I hope!
