Shane Warne is a man to check out. One of the best bowlers of all time, Shane was an Aussie test cricketer and quite the celebrity- he was friends with the likes of Elton John, Michael Jordan .. Sadly we lost Shane at the age of 52 just a couple of years ago. RIP.

Joel, there are 3 forms of cricket (Test: 5 days, One Day: 50 overs each side, and T20: a 20 over slog fest) and the rules ( Laws) are slightly different for each and also, the strategy and the psychology of the game is different for each. For me, nothing beats Test cricket.

I always look at it that a test is like a classical symphony - if you're an aficionado, it's the highest form of the game, full of nuances but boring for the newcomer. An ODI is like a jazz gig, lots going on, still plenty of room to display your chops. A T20 match is like a pop song - fine for a quick thrill but ultimately likely to be forgotten quickly.

You are right when throwing from the deep the fielder will normally throw it to the wicketkeeper who should be up at the stumps by then but if the fielder sees a batsman not making a effort to make his ground they will have a pop at the stumps as there is usually another fielder backing up to stop over throw runs.

You mean using that BIG SOFT BALL, that Rounders in the USA is called "Softball" As a English kid in Minnesota in the early 1960 I played all the American sports, except Ice hockey and Basketball. We were in both Baseball and American Football Leagues! Had a great time... until we had to go back to reality 3 years later in England. My cultural shock was learning to be English again! I had my American accent for YEARS after and whenever I worked with or am in the company of any Americans, my accent returns. Still, great country, nice people (mainly) good sport. Cricket is reckoned to be the second-most popular sport in the world (after what you call soccer), mainly because of its huge popularity on the Indian subcontinent. If India and Pakistan are drawn to play against each other then both nations more or less come to a standstill. Cricket’s history in England dates back about 500 years. It’s mainly played in countries that were previous British colonies. I imagine that it would have become popular in the US if it hadn’t been for the American war of Independence. There is some cricket in the US. I did read in the New York Times a few years back that the NYPD had formed a team, mainly as a way of getting to know the American-Asian community. I believe you also have a national team.

It's very very rare to have cricketers fighting on the pitch. With the umpire blunder at 2:00, cricket now uses a video umpire for poor decisions - each team can ask for review a set number of times during an innings. Baseball was developed from a sport called rounders, which is related to cricket and is usually played in schools in the UK. The US improved on it to make it the sport it is today. BTW, if you want to see some incredible boundary catches and saves, hunt for a video on Trent Boult. Good bowler and exceptional outfielder.

Cricket is a lot older than baseball. The earliest 'record' of an organised match is in 1697, but clearly it was already established at that point. There is another very old English game called Rounders, which is still played, that is surely the game from which baseball is derived. It has all the basic features of baseball and it would have been known by many early English settlers in America. It was also included in an 18th century book of games and pastimes that was available there.

Highlights can be a little confusing to understand the flow of the game. I'm not sure if there's any videos out there of a couple of complete overs, but that would be useful to see how the game flows, the interchanging of batter on strike, change of ends, and more importantly, how difficult it is to get a batter out. (Outs are rare, runs are common, opposite to baseball).

The shoe must be behind the line to be legitimate, or is a no ball or free runs if hit! Think of cricket as a chest game, strategies are the rule, each batsman has a weak spot the bowlers try to bowl to that, batsmen try to hit as many different shots in different areas to make the bowlers change their strategy and move the fielders, so to score. Great game when you get into it.

@@sharonmartin4036 although I admire Smith's ability as one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game, I also feel he was a part of the destruction of the reputation of our country as above cheating. So yes, I would have applied a lifetime ban to them all. However, having said that, you need to put things in context here; just about every country cheated by modifying the condition of the ball. Look at the poms putting saliva from lollies on it, or scuffing it up with dirt in their pockets. Or the pakistan team literally chewing with their teeth, or yet another instance gouging the seam with their fingernails (I forget which country this was). Sandpaper was the height of idiocy, but it was indicative of pressures in cricket to win at all costs and to suggest that Australia alone, or the individuals involved were isolated... is naive. Essentially those other people who were caught were faced with minimal, farcical penalties; in one case I think it was a two match suspension. The aussies faced year-long bans, at least 50x harsher penalty than applied in other countries. So, there's that. Yes, I'm disappointed in Smith, Warner, et. al. But that's the climate they lived in back when that sort of stuff was happing TO them at the hands of other countries. Win at all costs. Well, the cost was high - very high - and they are all tainted for the rest of their lives. Though I may agree with you in that I would have applied a harsher penalty, I would argue against the view they received "preferential treatment". In context, their treatment was EXTREMELY harsh.

It's been played within colonial countries for hundreds of years and the rivalries are intense. M S Dhoni was an excellent player, exciting to watch 👍 In India it is a religion and the players are treated like gods....Dhoni, Kohli, Tendulkar, Bumrah. You're talking astronomical amounts of money in the indian professional league (IPL). Sadly, this makes it open to match fixing and extortion. It's easy to pick up the rules. Indeed I'd doubt Dhoni would feature in the top 20 or 30 for most people. Joel, you ought to have a look at some of those named here. For batting: Richards, Lara, Sobers, Bradman. For bowling: Sobers, Lillee, Hadlee, Warne, Bedi. For wicket keeping; Gilchrist, Knott, Marsh...... they'd all be guys I'd point out as being at the top of their game.

In baseball if you catch ball & go out of field of play you are still out (you also can't be caught out if bowler bowls a no ball, unlike being out on a foul ball). In cricket if you catch ball (EG Smith) over the boundary before touching the ground then the player is not out & it counts as 6 runs. By throwing the ball back into play, before touching ground, it prevents a 6 & players only get what they have run between wickets. If you are back in UK again over July/August you should try to catch a T20 match for sure

Cricket used to be more popular in the USA than baseball until the civil war. The soldiers were unable to play cricket due to there being no ground suitable for a pitch so baseball, which doesn't need a flat pitch for the ball to bounce on, became the bat and ball sport of choice and it's popularity grew from there.

Throwing the ball at the wicket to get a batsman out is more common than you might think….. they practice hitting one stump, not three….. mind you the example here is great from such a long distance. The bowler will generally go to the wicket from the end he bowled to help, and the wicket keeper (with the glove) goes to the other. Sometimes if it is going to miss they will catch and then break the wicket. Sometimes there is no time for them to get there….. if it misses and the ball goes to the boundary it’s 4 runs… 3:45 Brett Lee was an Australian Cricket Player, but this is. BBL cricket (States playing each other). I’m in WA and the team in Orange is from my State]. Brett was a great Aussie Bowler and he also has commentated and been in some movies I think. There have been so many great bowlers over the years, but I would include DK Lillee in that mix, and Glenn McGarth, and Shane Warne.

3:48 ''career was done''. no his career didn't end because of that play/match. his name is brett lee he played for australia as a super fast bowler for over a decade. in this particular match he was almost closer to his 40s age wise. being a fast bowler is really tough when you have passed your 30s. so he probably announced his retirement from all the formats of cricket before this match and that particular match was the grand final/title match of the whole tournament so after they lost the match to the orange team his career was done meaning he didn't want to play anymore tournaments, it was his decision.

Kapil Dev hitting four sixes in a row to avoid follow on. (Audacious). Aussie batsmen killed by bouncer (tragedy). Two bowlers breaking 100 mph (awesome). Bradman averaging 99.94 (most outrageously massive statistic in all of sport) The emergence of Afghan cricket in a war form country where sport is mostly banned (most triumph over adversity) Cricket is a great mirror to live in general.

Shane Warne would have to be the ultimate player. What he did with a cricket ball almost defied physics. Throwing from the boundary and hitting the stumps is more common than you think and more common than shown in this video. The first clip doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I can't remember the players names but the batsman was an Aussie and the bowler was either Pakistan or India. The bowler was head hunting. Even after the bowler had been warned he still kept it up. The batsman got super pissed off and started walking down the pitch towards the bowler. The batsman was a giant and used a tree trunk for a bat. The umpires and players realised what was going to happen and prevented the batsman from scoring 6 runs using that bowlers head as the ball. The bowler was claiming he wasn't doing it deliberately, but it was obvious he was. The batsman was around 6 foot 7 or 8. At that batsman's height they were deliberate.

USA *must* enter the World Cricketing Arena 1. There's a lot of money involved, and America stands to gain, seriously. 2. This will make the American Sporting scene more international and will help gain a LOT of fans, worldwide. Right now the USA has an isolationist mindset, like 110V, Miles/feet/inches and Baseball. 3. This will bring a lot of vim, glamour and pizaaz into the game. USA, however, needs to brig in the locals, and not just the usual first-generation immigrants.

The reason they jump over the boundary rope is that if they touch the rope while holding the ball, the batter gets four runs and the catch is invalid.

If the players are dressed in white, they a playing a Test Match between 2 countries. This is the 5 day game form and the traditional game. Coloured clothes is either a one day game of 50 overs (6 balls bowled in an over) or a T20 game. There are 11 players to a side. The fielding side have to get out 10 batsmen of the batting side. Then they swap roles with the batters going out to field and the fielding side going in to bat. In test matches, the teams each bat and field twice. Whoever has the most runs having got the other side out twice wins. In one day games and T20, each side bats and bowls (or fields) once. Whoever has the most runs after either 50 or 20 overs wins. The aim of the bowler is to hit the 3 stumps and get the batter out. The aim of the batter is to get runs. The batter defends the stumps. He can get out by the ball hitting the stumps and the little things across the top of the stumps (bails) flying off. LBW is out when the umpire thinks the ball would hit the stumps but the batter was in the way. They practice throwing the ball back to the stumps from the outfield so they can be quite accurate. The size of each field varies so it can be a long way!! Eg at Melbourne. The fielders who were flicking the ball back in before it hit the ground had to be in the air to do so or the ball would have been counted as 4 runs. If the ball flies over the fence without hitting the ground it is counted as 6 runs. Some batters can hit the ball high into the stands!

Joel, a lot of Aussie cricketers play in Indian clubs for huge salaries. In India and Pakistan cricket is a Huge National fever pitch obsession!! India and Pakistan are so anti each other militarily since the beginning of the 20th century and this spills into sport, including and especially cricket! When they place each other, usually in a neutral country, it's War on the cricket ground, or nearly war anyway, and they forget it's only sport😂

Cricketer Brett Lee was scouted by Baseball when he played. The calls where they get excited on where the ball hits the leg is called a LBW (leg before wicket) it’s still classed out of it hits the leg but looks like it could hit wickets. The catch or throwing the ball at the wickets are out. Points outside out near fence or passed the fence are 6 runs. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2awdWifa7ujj7M or kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpyVkIODrKyhi6sfeature=shared (I know second one is for kids lol). If you get out on the first bowl it’s called a duck.
