If soldering is the best way to connect wires maybe you can answer this question, Why don’t you see wires soldered together from the factory? How come you do not see solder joints on race cars! Unfortunately a lot of people do not know what they are doing when it comes to soldering, What usually ends up happening is people tend to leave excess flux on the wires and eventually it starts to corrode the wires!

So I am installing an aftermarket stereo in my car and I have connected all the same color wires between the two harnesses but there is a blue wire on one of the harnesses that does not have a matching wire on the other harness. My understanding is that this blue wire is for a power antenna... I don't have a power antenna. Should I just tape off the end of the wire and leave it unconnected? Thx for any advice!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I Bought a second hand van , the radio does not work, so I bought the Chinese Android 13 Multimedia, but it wont power up. So I watched your video. I have 14 Volts on the ignition and no voltage on the Yellow wire. I followed your suggestion and checked the 15A battery fuse, it was blown, I replaced it with 20A which blew almost immediately. my van was used as a refrigerator van before it was stripped. i am thinking that I could just draw a wire directly from battery to the yellow wire on the harness. Can you suggest any other solution please.

Yo JPinstallguy i really enjoyed your video because i have a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva Sport LS and i bought a Soundstream VR7HB head unit with the Adapter. I would like to hook up my Kenwood KAC-D8105 5 Channel amp with a Kicker sub to the new radio but i have never done this before. I can handle running the power cable, ground but my question to you is howdo i hook up the speakers from the head unit to the Amp as well as a bass knob? Both the radio has rca speaker plugs as well as the Amp (It has line in RCA plug in for the Amp or on the other side of the Amp theres speaker terminals with screws. Im not going to install new speakers yet just using the stock speakers so how do i get speakers hookedup from the head unit to the Amp? Can i simply plug in rca ug ins from the head unit to the Kenwood Amp? I know its a long queztion but as i mentioned to you this is my first time installing the entire stereo system? great video but you should teach us how to find the wiring list in the owners manual for the stereo, and the wiring list on the harness box, because that will tell you what everything is for and which wires go where. every car model is different i learned that myself because in my car the black is ground like you said but the yellow wire is for illumination instead of the constant power it had to do with what light level you have your dash lights at and a few others were different, the speaker wires were the same though :P this video is really informative about how to wire it in some one told me to use wire nuts but i kept having problems with them popping out when i put it back in the dash the butt connectors are a lot more secure thanks man

It's Tesa Tape. Electrical tape but made of cloth. Less messy than regular electrical tape.

Sometimes when you get a long harness like that it's because you either have a tuner in the back or you have to relocate the factory radio

Hey JP great video man, I actually installed a Pioneer AVH-110BT in my 2011 Colorado, and I connected all the wires with their corresponding colors and for some reason it didn't work, so I decided to connect my Red 12V Ignition Switch wire with my Yellow 12V Constant wire all together so that the 4 wires are on the same circuit, however I believe this drained my battery and I was wanting to fix it to where it wouldn't drain the battery dead, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! bro try checking your ignition fuse it may be blown. if you connect your ign and 12v together it will keep the radio on and yes it will drain your battery. so wire it like you had it before and check the fuses. also since you have a colorado make sure you have the right harness. if you got the 15 dollar harness than it might have a wire for ignition but on the other side there is no wire because a lot of GM cars turn on radios through data so you might either have to hardwire your ignition or buy the data module harness.

JP first off Awesome video... quick question, might be a dumb one but if you’re running an amp for your speakers... do you just cap the speaker wires off since you don’t need to use the head unit for speaker wattage?

Not a dumb question at all, yes you are right if you are hooking up a 2 ch or 4ch amp to your speakers you dont need the speaker wires from the radio to be installed just run your rca's

yes you may have a loose connection somewhere or your speaker is on its way to becoming blown, or the speaker terminal is touching metal somewhere its a couple possibilities

yes i always hook up the blues never had an issue sometimes all you have is a solid blue on the factory harness which is power antenna. remote turn on is good for that wire.

2:22 I’m confused on one part between blues on the Wiring Harness and the Aftermarket Harness for a double den apple car play/android auto unit that I’m installing into my 2010 charger rt, the A.H have two blue wires(one solid, one w/ white stripe) while the W.H has just a single solid blue wire(but on W.H box it has description with solid blue and blue w/ white stripe wire specifications)… THREE PART ?: Do I just connect the solid blues and leave the blue w/ white stripe by itself, or did I get the wrong W.H for my specific car stereo, or do I connect both solid blue an blue w/ white stripe & clamp it to the single blue wire on the W.H?

Greetings and thank you for your videos! I'm having an issue that I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on. I recently installed an aftermarket head unit in my daughter's 2012 Chevy Captiva. I purchased a wiring adapter similar to what you are using and wired everything as you described. The symptom I am trying to solve is that the unit does not power on. Upon further inspection, I found the ACC (Red Wire) on the vehicle side of the connector does not have a wire. I checked every pin on the connector and there is no "switched" power being supplied. In this video you mentioned a data link, but I don't really know anything about that. Is there any guidance you can provide? I appreciate your time and assistance.

Get a red wire it should’ve came in with the harness, like an Estes one if not get one with the little metal end to connect to the harzards. Run it to that and it should give you power. It’ll be red as well just splice them

what kind of radio do you have because back up camera wires arent usually pink or orange. they are usually purple with a white strip and that is for the reverse wire on a double din screen. might have to look a the manual and see what those wires go to.

but also know this all you need to install a back up camera is power to the camera, run that rca to the back of the radio and put it in the rear cam slot and wire the reverse wire to your radio's reverse wire so it switches the screen to the camera when you go in reverse i made a video for it to as well here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4LFg36Cr957f5o

If your aftermarket radio did not come with built in cd player, nothing changes, wiring is the same & functions the same just fine. Hope this helps
