After being closed for over 40yrs, the Brooks Coal Mine in Scranton is now open to the public. It holds the title of being the oldest Mine Tour in Pennsylvania and now the newest. The ‪@undergroundminers‬ spent over a year & a half bringing this mine back to life after sitting abandoned for decades. Not only is it safe and up to code, but it's completely free for people who want to see what mine life was like. I'm thankful for having the opportunity to document this special project and I'm looking forward to phase two.

Nay Aug is such a treasure of a park! And now that they've been able to reopen the mine, it's even more special 😊. Thank you for showing this to us and those who so proudly restored it!

Wow, coal mining was dirty, dangerous, backbreaking work !! I have soo much respect for the men who worked these mines, and the ones who lost their lives in the accidents that plagued these operations.

Thanks for the great video tour of the mine. I worked in the area and was aware about the park but never knew there was an old exhibition mine there. Thanks to the Underground miners group for making the effort to reopen this historic site. I grew up in Philadelphia and our house was heated by a coal furnace. So I was always fascinated by the work required to get the coal to us. It is great that they are preserving the history of underground coal mining. I hope many people visit the site and see what hard work that it took to keep our homes warm in the past.

Thank JP for covering the reopening. Wow, the volunteers did amazing work. Will tell my son and send him this video. He lives not even an hour south of Scranton and it would be a great place to take my 11 year old grandson. He would love it.

Wow JP, you did amazing covering this wonderful historical event and it's awesome that you have it documented now! UGM did a fantastic job on the restoration and it's awesome they had over 700 people for opening day! I just wanted to say that I agree so much with your comment saying, "this goes to show that with determination and talking to the right people that great things can happen" it's so true and this is the perfect example of that! Great video, thank you!

I still have PTSD from the Pioneer Tunnel tour I took years ago so I don't think I'll be taking this tour but I would love to see Nay Aug Park again. I have lots of memories of that place. In high school my favorite cross country course went through the zoo.

JP - great job !! Someday you are gonna have your own show on the Discovery Channel. Those miner guys did a a fantastic job. That is some serious hard work. I look forward to seeing it this summer and will certainly donate. I don't mind giving donations to hard working people - not at all. Thanks again for bringing this to light.

I am blown away that a coal vane runs that long. That is so fascinating. Wow having 700 plus people show up opening day is phenomenal. The work these guys did was amazing. It's so important that coal mining history be taught. I had a grandfather 2 great grandfather's and multiple uncles die from black lung. ✌

This is awesome! That would take a lot of work but it doesn't look like you have much water in that mine. There is a museum mine near where I live (Springhill, Nova Scotia) and it has to be pumped out every year.

Awesome to seeing that coal mine opening, I seen documentaries on coal mining. In the 1800s and 1900s very labor intensive. My opinion, not a job for just anyone.
