Exploring UNDER People's HOMES & BUSINESSES - A Neverending Adventure

I invite you to come along with me and ‪@coalcrackerchris‬ & ‪@rj78productions88‬ as we go exploring Under People's Homes & Businesses in what seems to be a neverending adventure. This 1800s culvert is a long tunnel that goes directly under a town and as we'll see, there's access points from the street, and inside homes & businesses. We'll also come across different construction elements, an infrared camera system and just when we thought we reached the end.... it keeps going! I nearly ran out of battery power as there was so much to see and it went for such a long distance. Respectfully, if you know where this is located, please don't share it in the comments as there are dangers involved with doing this.

A lot of the older towns built right over creeks that they used as drainage which I think is what happened here, I think this is a natural creek that got built over. Great video, love the Goonies reference. Too bad you didn't bring your waterproof selfie camera so we could peak at the fishies.

Definitely need to get some boots for future adventures like this. These tunnels were not only used to convey streams under towns but also their sewage. I am currently starting work to replace tunnels similar to this that carry both stream/storm water and sewage. During this project the stream/storm and sewage will be separated. The sewage department hired people to go in these tunnels to inspect them and they were fully geared up with boots, gas detectors, escape bottles, and air being pumped through the tunnels. You were lucky with this stream it looks as though it was separated pretty well, I didn't see any "brown trout" in the video. But even when they are separated some properties are missed and the "brown trout" escape into the stream. When the video first started, I was hoping it was the system I'm working on, but it wasn't. I did figure out the location, but the secret is safe.

This is exactly the type of adventure I think you do So Very Well!! Water, spiders, fish, tunnels and this one had suprise camera, scooter but most of all the restaurant floor WOW! Might have been used during prohibition times for secret liquor deliveries. Thank you for these. Because of multiple back surgeries, and being on disability, im unable to do much of these kind of things though i used to explore my home woods all the time. You and Cliff the wandering woodsman give me a way to still see things like this and share them with my 8yr old son. You do an amazing job, and i thank you again! God Bless!

The building with the glass floor is a restaurant. It used to be a purse factory at one time. Not sure what else it was.

I have one under my house and iv bin in it and got a 🐟 fish down there it was so funny because Iv bin in a coal mine the day after and tow years late explored an abandond mine to that was tow miles away in Virginia house I liked it but I was a bit worried that I could not make it out but I did

What an incredible adventure. I was wore out. I had to take a break midway and make me a grilled cheese sandwich. 😁... lol ...those tunnels could have been used during prohibition. As a kid I had the same thing in my backyard. We used to practically live in those things during the summer. Ours ran about 4 miles and was the scene of all kinds of shenanigans.

At 14:18 you are under, what is currently, the Stabin Museum - you can eat lunch/dinner at their restaurant and look down on the water from above (hence the spotlight). Great place to visit for art gallery, food/cocktails, and they have a jazz room. It's a hike outside of town but they have a shuttle service you can call for.

Cool video! Reminds me of the time in high school me and a friend went into a culvert. We wound up two towns away and greeted by a police car. Not sure how they knew we were down there. The cop warned us not to do it again or we'd be arrested for trespassing. I think some of those cubbyholes you found could've been used for receiving stolen or illegal goods.

Well, I enjoyed the adventure of that long tunnel/colvert or ancient underground history. I know you don't find a Ford Model T down there,but nice to see some fish. That may have even been longer at one point back in the original built days. As to the cameras: I really think they are just security cams to protect the restaurant from some one entering up through the floor. Other than that I can only imagine to track water levels. You guys did a great job at this long video. Thanks!

I just remembered back in the 90s I lived in an old house a city. It had one of those metal plates bolted to the floor in the basement. I always thought it was creepy and I never opened (unbolted) it. Those metal plates you show during your adventure.., it makes me wonder if that is what was in my house - a portal to a very old sewage tunnel. Hmmm, I never smelled anything.., but I wonder.

There's an underground stream in South Scranton that goes between the house I grew up in and the neighbor's house, under the edges of the 2 properties. It flows into the Lackawanna River a few blocks away. When I was a kid a hole opened up maybe 3 feet across and I think the city repaired it. Now, some 40 or so years later, another bigger section collapsed and was repaired, this time all on the neighbor's side and about 20-30 feet upstream. They dug out a larger area for repair that time. I also know of two other streams that are underground in South Scranton that also go to the Lackawanna. OH, GREAT VIDEO!!!

The fish prove it’s a healthy water system…I’m sure they have lots to eat with all those spiders. If I were you Jay, I’d wear rubber boots…especially walking that far in the water. Wearing sandals while walking that many hours in the water is just an invitation for getting a staph infection or worse…especially if your feet get scratched or scraped and your feet are wet and pruny. Be safe and wear them…besides sandals aren’t sturdy while walking on slippery rocks. I love all these adventures!

Speak of that cave cricket I use to live in a 1845 house that was full of those crickets under the house and in the cellar. I woke up one morning and went into the kitchen and turned the light on bc I was hearing noises and when the light came on there was about 1000 of those cave crickets on the floor. I went on a killing spree and had one heck of a mess to clean up.

Why did you feel that you had to blur out the upper shot through the grate @17:26? I wouldn't think there would be any big secrets there.... Also, the cameras down there might have been for checking out the water levels. Don't be fooled by the water lines along there either - that is the normal high water levels when it rains. Street flooding big storms could cause the water to rise to near the top of the tunnel.... It is bizarre that they let people build directly over the exposed areas of the public culvert system in the exposed parts of the culvert though - it makes one wonder what sort of liquids and whatever else is or was being dumped into the water. Very interesting video!

I don't know if this was the sound of the water or your friends but at 10:28, after you asked us if we like the video so far, there is a sound of a deep voice possibly a womans or girl's voice. Like I said it may be the sound of the water or perhaps the sounds at the top of the culvert. Come to think of it the sound may be a deep sound echo so maybe it's not a voice lol. So, if you brought a good speaker capable of over 110 db or so, you could blast a loop of the Purge siren down there and people all over town would hear it....coming from below ground. These are the things I think up.

Owing to the apparent age of the tunnel sections with those openings, It's probably a safe bet that those were antique toilets. Back before modern pluming was invented, having an open hole into a covered river would have been the best that anyone could do.

Wow JP, what an amazing adventure! It was full of excitement! I bet you were relieved when you finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, but at the same time, not wanting the explore to end. I am always so amazed at the awesome construction of these old culverts, and this one is no exception. The footage where the undercut is, with deeper water and the water flowing faster, is so beautiful, the water is so clear too! Seeing the fish, the crickets, and I have to admit, even seeing the spiders and spider nests was very interesting. I can imagine it was kind of startling to see those cameras and you even found a treasure, the penny! Also, seeing that scooter hanging there was creepy! lol I can't believe that houses and restaurants and decks and patios and other structures were built over that, maybe some illegal trade-offs were happening, kind of scary to think of that. I've never been THAT curious, lol. When we bought our old home we were informed that the cement cap in the utility room went down to a dry cistern under the house that the previous owners used asa sort of root cellar, keeping home canned food, etc. down there. I have never once had the desire to lift that cap and take the first look into it and we've been here 12 years now. Always said the only way I'm going down there is if we have a tornado warning and I can see the funnel cloud heading for us, LOL!
