Smith is maybe the most naturally talented player I've ever seen; parking lot range, killer handle, great passer, and literally the only dude I've ever seen who could dunk from the foul line off of either leg, *and* he had the two leg plant. Could've been a HOF'er, just never really wanted it. Also, that little dude is gonna be a problem.

For the people who dont understand why JR Smith practices these type of shots and not normal set shots do yourself a favor and look at where he is on the all time 3 point list. He barely ever gets open shots bc people run him off the line 24/7.

AlphaDwg he’s below average. Go back and watch the last Cavs Warriors finals matchup. And once again do you believe after being out the game essentially two years at the age of 35 he’s going to be at the same status defensively? He’s going to be a liability, but he can give LA strong bench boost. More buckets than Bradley, but way less defense

I mean you should normally still go off the normal leg but sometimes switching it up messes up the timing of the defender
@PB42189
@PB42189 4 жыл бұрын
yea im still not really buyin it throws the defender off, in all in game situations the handler usually has an opening n they just take it, its never intentional, that ja morant highlight is the closest thing to lookin like he caught the defender off guard but really he ran out of floor cuz his footwork was off n he just got it up, long story short training it probably not nearly as effective as just becoming proficient with the other hand, i notice most trainers dont even do weak hand drills. . .
@devvv4616
@devvv4616 4 жыл бұрын
Its just a more advanced move. Jr's too advanced to still be practicing normal layups as much
@brandonobrien3239
@brandonobrien3239 4 жыл бұрын
PB42189 ? Its almost always intentional at high level? It’s used to throw defender off that’s why rondo always used it as a smaller guard. Elite rim protectors time your jump off when you take your 2 steps, if you take 1 step go off same foot as your finishing can throw their timing completely out of whack. Trainers don’t do weak hand drills because to become elite you basically shouldn’t have a weak hand. That’s why a lot of dribbling drills are 2 ball drills or do one combo starting with one hand then doing it with the other hand. To say it’s not a move, it’s just an accident and should just put it up with the other hand is low basketball iq or ignorance of high level rim protectors. Nba dudes aren’t practicing for layup on local 6’0 foot tall 30 year olds at the ymca, they practicing for 7 footers with 35 inch verticals lmao have to switch it up or shots getting sent to the stand every play. Since you probably on watch highlights please go watch rondo highlights and you’ll see him catching a lot of people off guard.

@peteranders6893
@peteranders6893 4 жыл бұрын
I really dig that training spot. The real shooting starts around 6 minutes. To the people saying he's gonna be an amazing shooter - let's wait and see. It's been a long time and watching an NBA pro shoot in an "empty" gym really tells you next to nothing about how well they will perform in their given roles. When warmed up and physically fit / prepared / not broken down from activity every NBA player tends to shoot better than 50% and even watching a guy hit 80% of his shots means next to nothing. When that heart rate isn't at 90-110, but more like 160-170 and you play at full speed against capable defenses, that shooting rate is gonna be very, very different.

What you get with Smith is a guy who can sit at the 3 point line and when Bron is in the paint he can kick it a few different places and you have to pick your poisen. 1) Bron goes to the hoop to finish 2) Bron has a lob option with any of the bigs 3) Bron gets deep in the paint and kicks it to many shooters A lot of teams will not be in shape to keep closing out on shooters like that.

His shots were a big part of why the cavs won in 16. Athleticism is crazy. Can make clutch plays when needed. Hope he does great and proves people wrong.
