Flying Mooney Rocket M20K Over Phoenix & Trying To Land At Sky Harbor!

Today we meet up with our friend Owen (@SJCSpotter on Instagram) to go for a ride in a 1986 M20K "Mooney Rocket" with the larger 305HP Turbocharged engine! We flew all over Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Chandler. We even tried our best to make a quick stop at Sky Harbor International which was very busy of course. Owen let us do a little flying in the Mooney for the first time and it was so much fun! What do you all think about the speedy plane??

Never flown a Mooney but last time I had a failed mag in a chieftain I had “just flown”....for the 10 seconds it takes ill be checking those mags... peace of mind, can’t beat it.

Should always do a small run up in a piston plane. NA or turbo.

The Mooney Rocket will fly rings around a Cirrus SR22 & cost less than what you got into Cirrus SR20. Strong all metal construction & steel tubing around the cabin. Wing broke the machine on the stress failure test.

Jeffrey and Christian every video has been absolutely incredible! The Mooney Rocket m-20 is a sweet aircraft. Every aircraft that I saw are legit in every way! I can name them all I'm sure of it. I got to fly a Piper Warrior which was a blast! My brothers got to fly as well and they had a blast as well!

I’ve never run up the engine before shutting down the engine unless I was flying with the mixture rich on a hot day. It just keeps the spark plugs clean and makes it easier to start the next time. I only run up the engine to check the mags before takeoff which every pilot should do

Btw, your supposed to keep 1 hand on the wheel while vehicle is in motion if its a Tesla. It is strictly stated and required. If you have an incident or accident, the steering wheel has sensors that can tell if a hand was on the wheel upto 2 minutes prior to an accident. Its built into the cars "black box" data recorder that is in all vehicles made after 2006. Tesla csn deny claims and hold you 100% at fault. Same for any video showing it. The system is to be used on flat straight highways only and still with 1 hand and eyes on the road. And btw, the mooney is a dr killer and will do the same to ANYONE that does not respect it and follow checklists and procedures to a T.

The (CFI?) was on the controls most all the time even when he was letting the "copilot" fly, I think he was not turning over full aircraft control, rather letting the right-seater steer at altitude and ride along on the controls during landing phase. Not *necessarily* a big deal. During flight training and with a qualified pilot, that you actually may consider turning over control to, then definitely positive control turnover.

Don't worry about it, I wanted to fly since I was 2 and 16 years later I took my first flight lesson. The feeling of flying is unreal. Plus most learn to fly centers have an intro flight around 100- 150 dollars.

I see you learned to do a correct start on these engines? Great job! This is my damn pet peeve of mine but not all pilots give a shit about takkkg care of an engine? Nor do they care. I always keep my engine RPM low ;below 1000rpm. “Oil Pressure “

Agreed. A pilot of his experience is the most dangerous pilot. I've got over 9,000 hours and would never act as arrogant and with such lack of discipline as this young man. I acted like that until I went to the airlines and was trained the proper way to do things.

On my Mooney and my basic TO and Landing checklists are printed right on the instrument panel, he may also be reading them off the iPad (just benefit of the doubt). That said, regarding riding with the channel hosts in their give-away prize, I would feel more comfortable if they had at least 200 hrs and an instrument rating. Not that private pilots don't take pax soon after they get their ticket, I definitely did, but giving him time to get an instrument ticket and a couple of hundred hours will at least put him though several instructors and may be able to remediate bad habits that may not be worked out by his primary instructor.

@10:32 didn’t read back the altimeter setting. Very poor airmanship. I just don’t believe this kid has flown over 100 different aircraft types. He’s good but not that good
