The physique of actual Roman gladiators was more similar to the physique of Russel Crow or Fedor. Most of the sucessful gladiators maintained extra layers of fat tissue as a protection against injuries. They did not look like body builders with 2% body fat. Too vulnerable.

Yeah, that is a metaphorical sacrifice, it's not like they kidnapped the child. His wife and his child are to be groomed as beta kittens. I still do not know if the entire adventure is what it looks like on the surface, Bill bumbling his way into their world. Or if the entire movie is one long setup. The powers that be were after Bill and his wife, but his trip to the mansion may have been an accident. It may have been a setup with his old music friend in on all of it. I just don;t know.

Kubrick was asked to finish the movie at the behest of Kirk Douglas after they had worked together on Paths Of Glory. Kubrick didn't enjoy working for a big studio for obvious reasons but in the end...Spartacus is one of the finest films ever crafted. To think that Kubrick effectively directed five of the best actors on the planet and he was in his mid twenties I believe. The scene leading up to Spartacus's first arena fight is remarkable. Kubrick never shows you the arena or the first fight. You just sit there waiting with Spartacus and his opponent while just outside the door there is screaming and swords clashing. It creates so much tension as you wait to enter. A ballsy directorial move by a young director. Kubricks attention to detail makes it an absolute gem.
@piratesfan1995able
@piratesfan1995able 6 жыл бұрын
My top 3 of films of Kubrick are paths of glory, Dr strangelove, and Barry Lyndon. Paths of glory is the most profound antiwar movie I've ever seen, with a great performance by Kirk Douglas. The ending scene makes me cry everytime I watch it. Dr strangelove is hilarious and scary at the same time, Peter sellers is terrific as always but George C Scott steals every scene he's in like he did in so many other films. Finally Barry Lyndon is hands down the most gorgeous work of art ever put onto celluloid. The shining is he's most overrated film in my opinion. It's fine, beautiful shots like in every Kubrick film but doesn't really strike a chord with me.

Yes, the 00 section is reserved for agents with licenses to kill. There are other 00 agents in the books and movies, including 0011 in Ian Fleming's novel "Moonraker". Bond just has the 007 number assigned to him. When one 00 agent dies, another may be given the same number, as apparently happened to 002 (killed in two separate movies 13 years apart; "The Man With The Golden Gun" and "The Living Daylights")

He found the gladiator training interesting, but it isn’t a ‘Kubrick’ film. If you’re interested in Stanley Kubrick, who had terrible grades in high school, but pointed out that it doesn’t prepare you for ‘problem-solving’, which, he maintains, is what is something that is important to master (i’ll say!), about a famous photo that you might not know he took, his living off of playing chess in Central Park, and his very good second or third feature length film, titled ‘The Killing’, the problem with ‘Lolita’ being a lack of sex, listen to Stanley Kubrick interview-rare. About the steps he took to take control, and everything else, he’s very : *candid*

Just for everyone’s clarification, The Shining movie hotel was a hotel in Oregon. The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park was the hotel King stayed at and inspired the book, and where the TV miniseries was filmed
