I think the 'cultural appropriation' view-point is a joke when it comes to music. You can't hate on someone who has a different face be inspired to create something that is 'technically' not theirs. Maybe that 'style' of music spoke to them on a deep-spiritual level? That's whole idea behind music is to share with others, connect and allow the unknown to create something better.

I love Cornel West, because I know that even if we don't agree on everything, if we were to sit down we could talk about it in mutual respect, listen to each other, not let prejudice determine the course our conversation is going to take, and walk away from it with a deeper understanding of each other. He doesn't yell and he doesn't shame people. He talks, and importantly he also listens to people who don't share his views or have differing opinions. With Dr. West communication is always a two-way street -- not just sending, but also receiving, and that, unfortunately, has become a rare thing in today's world. Far too many people are only interested in conveying their own message, and have no interest in hearing anyone else's. And that's not limited to one political party, or one side of the political spectrum. It's not even limited to the world of politics, it affects pretty much everything: sports, health, science & technology, diet, just about anything imaginable.

Black men get a lot of respect from WHITE people. We let them play the games we created over a century ago and are part of WHITE culture. And they make a lot of money doing it. Like the NFL, NBA and MLB.

I wonder how many people here saw the title "Cultural appropriation" and just clicked dislike. I don't understand the dislike ratio.

Hendrix didn't actually make up the "Hendrix" chord he just made it popular. IMO the barrier to start jazz music is much larger than blues. Blues you can start with a 1-4-5 progression and then expand. Jazz is usually more chords. Obviously theres exceptions and both are awesome.

Who the fuck cares? And as far as basketball goes the blacks may not have invented basketball but they dominate in it. They dominate whites in basketball, football, baseball, track and field and pretty much every sport but hockey and swimming.

@P C literally, only one side accuses the other of not assimilating/ not contributing to the culture
@jftt425 жыл бұрын
@P C lol, you missed the whole point, the western culture that we know today has been built by different cultures mixing together and enriching each other, the fact that you wanna attribute it to a certain group and exclude certain groups from it is not only impossible by its very nature, but also the reason why certain groups that have been integral to the culture feel excluded and underappreciated

As a leftist, how does Cornell West address non-binary, gender neutral, gender fluid etc. people? If not Brother Smith or Sister Smith--I guess... Sibling Smith?

I love Jimi Hendrix, but he didn't CREATE chords. He used certain chords, like the E7#9 he used in Purple Haze, but he didnt CREATE it, it was already a chord and its known as the Jimi Hendrix chord because of its USE by Jimi in a distinctive and memorable way from that song. Same as the making the Major 4 chord a minor before resolving to the Major 1. Thats not a chord progression CREATED by John Lennon, but it was one he used distinctively and memorably in some songs and some refer to it as the John Lennon chord progression.

That's the most bullshit lie you could ever say Only black people say that stupidity shit but yet none of blacks take the time to understand that whites made the cloths you all wear music you hear cars you ride in to work or whatever you go You all want to dress like a white men ride a car like a white men live in a civil nation because last time I checked history black people didn't invent none of those things you all came from the jungle of West Africa tribes that didn't even have cloths on lol
