Porsche 993 owner from 1999 to December 2023. Polar Silver, full blue leather, hardback sports seats, M030 suspension, GT2 Aerokit and RSR exhaust on 18“ Split rims. Looked awesome. Sold it to get a start-up moving. Will have a 993 back in the fold as soon as the business scales to a level I feel comfortable to pull the money out. Owned Air Cooled 911‘s for 32 years (now 59). There is literally no other car that offers the experience an air cooled 911 does.

Hey, I’ve been in the military for 20 years, love and own a 993, & no one at work knows. I don’t have it for that reason. I love the beautiful looks, high quality, analog everything, and working on it myself. My late father was a Porsche guy. When I was a little kid I would follow him around his garage while he built his own race cars from wrecked 911’s. He built 3 different race cars over the years and one of his fastest and best builds was from two wrecked 993’… one was crashed in the front and the other the rear. He basically cut the cars in half and welded the good halves back together. In his first race he rolled the cad about 8 times at about 120mph… juts to rebuild the car again lol. The second time he rebuilt it he didn’t cross the wiring for the ABS system (which was the cause of the roll over crash lol). When I got to be about 18 the 993 race car became my track car as dad had “graduated” to GT3 Cup cars. I have his first Porsche that he bought in my garage going through a mile restoration. It’s a 77’ euro spec that he bought while he lived in Germany for a few years. When he moved back home he imported the car to bring it with him (in about 1982, I was born in 85’).

Hey James, if you feel the need for modern entertainment conveniences on the 993, Porsche sells a head unit that looks just like the original one, they call it Porsche Classic Radio and it comes with Carplay, Android Auto and all that modern jazz. Touchscreen might be a little too small for everyone's taste, but it's better than slapping a big ol' touchscreen in there.

I have one kisluxbag bag I got in 2019, it's the LV white catogram speedy. It's counter quality and it has a nice honey patina now, so the leather is real. I think whatever makes you happy go for it. I've seen LV with plastic leather and blood red glaze...

I feel like my 718 Cayman will be similarly looked on in the future as the last mid-engine Porsche with a stick, as they’ll be going fully electric next year. The 718 is small like 911’s used to be, and is a very mature model that’s had most of the kinks worked out, and you still get real buttons for everything, before they switched to glossy touch controls. Love it as a sports car, but I can’t deny the classic appeal of your 993. Welcome to the Porsche family!

congrats on the gorgeous car. i agree with much of what is said but I have one gripe. the words tiptronic and low maintenance costs do not go together. If the transaxle was overhauled in japan once that would be optimal. If not, id be ready for that one.

The 993 is my favorite body style but don't tell my '75 911S. They hid the auto transmission shifter with that leather boot really well. It looks great. I bet auto is better for city traffic. I might have to look into one for LA.

Love the car content. I'd still say the 964 is the one to get. I just can't get past the 993's streamlined headlights. 964's and earlier headlights protruded in a such a gorgeous way that was unmistakably porsche. I'll gladly take the extra 0.01 in drag coefficient for that. Anyway, enjoy the new rides and keep us updated on them!
