Күн бұрын

Another day in the office! Showing you guys how we blueprint and assemble a 4B11 Engine.
In this video we talk about using precision measuring equipment to check and adjust desired clearances, such as Piston to wall, bearing oil clearances, piston ring end gaps, etc.
We also talk about proper assembly techniques and how to ensure cleanliness when assembling the rotating assembly as this is a key factor in the engines performance.
Another topic we cover in this video is the use of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) In order to clean the cylinder walls and the piston ring packs as they usually have foreign material on them that is very hard to remove without detergents. The AFT is exactly that, a Detergent that strips down the unwanted residue that was left on the ring packs from the manufacturer to prevent rust, and it also allows us to remove the rest of the contaminants from the cylinder walls before assembly, so the pistons rings get a chance to seat and create a perfect seal as soon as the engine is in operation.
Remember that the pistons rings and the cylinder wall finish directly correlate how well the compression is held in the cylinder, so we need to do everything we can to make sure that the piston rings are clean, free of ATF (Post cleaning) and the cylinder walls are lightly coated with some none synthetic (detergent free) oil, and ready to accept the piston rings so the seating process does not get interrupted.
We rate our standard "Savage Package" good for about 850 whp. We can easily increase the engines power handling capabilities with a few upgrades and tricks so it can handle 250 + horsepower per cylinder.
Build Specs:
.L.A Sleeves Torque plate honed to 87mm
.CP-Carillo 87mm Forged pistons
.CP-Carillo .250" upgraded wrist pins
.Manley Turbo Tuf I-Beams W/arp 2000 fasteners
.ARP Main studs
.ARP 2000 head studs
.King Xp series main bearings
.King Xp series Rod bearings
.OEM oil pump
.OEM gasket set
.OEM crankshaft
Please like, share, and comment and if you have any build related questions, feel free to ask in the comments or give the shop a call, we are always more than happy to help!

Thank you so much for sharing all this information. Unfortunately, my budget build went out the window. I had to return my Chinese micrometer and get me a Mitutoyo, an APR rod bolt stretch gauge a decent bore gauge and trash my harbor freight torque wrench.

That piston ring tool comment is a strong statement. I don’t think it’s professional that you don’t think that you can take someone serious for a piston ring spanner. I don’t discern your work but I definitely discern your statement. If you watch videos from Subi Performance they don’t use them and you can take them seriously. This video has good information but that’s BS if you can’t walk a piston ring on and I have done both with and without there’s nothing wrong with either way unless you have newb hands or Parkinsons putting rings on.

Jason Ruiz I would still never walk rings on, specially the thicker rings that I use now. It’s not the proper procedure when there is a $5 tool for It that can prevent It from bending even if it’s only a possibility.

Great video! I watched it twice. Watching other u-tubers go in to JRP and get a great detailed walkthroughs I am convinced that JRP does excellent work. I'm bringing in my 4b11T to get this work done for it. Trying to push up to 700whp on my X reliably. I'm sure with this kind of attention to detail and OCD-like build and knowledge, pushing my X to 700whp reliably wouldn't be much of a trouble at all. Great Job JRP. I love it that this shop is not a assembly-type work with a lot of motors going in and out. JRP seems to be a small shop that takes pride in their job get very very personal with their motors. Somewhere in these walk-through videos, did you mentioned that you use to work for Mercedes Benz? Or did you go through a schooling for Mercedes? I wouldn't be surprise if you were a student with some of their engineers either abroad or at UCLA.

Kenny_Fa5 I’ve heard of guys that have gone to school, and they have told me it’s pretty much just the basics, that learning to build performance engines that you have to learn it as you go through and someone teaching you, Schools are a waste of time, and I got that from multiple people now. So my thoughts are lube tech would be a start and learn off of the master tech already working there and eventually get hands on with them and learning off of them

Roni could you give an idea as to what kind of hp this motor is expected to make? question with the rod bolt stretch i see you do 1 at a time then you torque it to 62ft pound then you say loosen them and do the other 1 and torque it to 62 ft pound to get the correct stretch of the bolt. how do you know that the first one that was tightened is the same stretch cause it was torqued twice or it wont stretch anymore cause the its the same torque specs? even tho it will have different amounts of anti-seize/lubricant on the rod bolt. if that makes sense. love your content wished you built sr20s tho. :)
