Mine is a 2016 model and I only paid 20k. Something I loved about it is the small things I could do to upgrade it and it be DIY. I have lights in the speaker covers, floor board and also in the little cubby above the glove box. I also just upgraded the radio to a jvc touch screen and that alone made a world of difference. I actually just purchased a Patriot 2 weeks ago. 2015 with 28,000 miles. Same High Altitude package. The things you are using as a detraction, I view mostly as positives. I don't want a complicated digital cluster. I actually LIKE the very basic display. And that radio is the same one used in the high end Grand Cherokee. That's Chrysler, not even remotely specific to the Patriot. I like the plastic dash. Its easy to keep clean and looks nice when dressed up.I happen to be 6'0", and my knees don't touch the base of the steering column whatsoever. Im not sure if you have short arms maybe? But at 6'0", I can fit comfortably in the front seat, with an adult seating comfortably behind me. My daughter is 5'7" and seats behind me fine, with no complaints. The compass is basically the same chassis and wheelbase. Just a slightly different appearance. Same price.I do agree with the seats. Manual lumbar. Only power forward/back/up/down, with manual angle, and manual passenger seat. Would have been nice to just have full power seats, but hey...its a Patriot, not a Grand Cherokee.The Sunroof is great. My head fits right inside the opening if I choose to sit up high.And the big difference is...I paid $15,000 for mine. Dark Cherry Metallic with the black chrome wheels. I absolutely love it. It gets me 24mpg (small tank though) and I feel very comfortable and safe in it. When the back seats are folded down, theres plenty of storage space in it. I don't actually believe anyone is paying over $30 for a Patriot though. That may be the sticker price, but look at TrueCar, and I see people getting them for $26 with all those options. Its a nice, comfortable, reliable vehicle. Im installing a Pioneer stereo with Apple CarPlay and OBD connection that gives me tire pressures, fuel economy, check engine status, and all the bells and whistles. That was $300. So for $15,300, I am extremely happy with my Patriot purchase. On the other hand, the Renegade to me felt tiny. Like a tall Go Kart or something. But, to each their own. Drive what you like...and I like my Patriot a ton!

You missed the point of this video. The point is the Patriot selling for 30k in 2017 is laughable. The problem is not bias, its that the car hasn't changed since it was first introduced. J C I own and daily a 2011 jeep patriot north edition, iv had it for about a year now and i have to say, its been more then reliable other then some minor issues with wheel barings due to the previous owner not taking care of it. It runs perfectly and handles great. Then engine failing seems to be a fluke in your case, it seems that the dealership that did the maintenance could have tampered with something in the engine compartment, they can sometimes tend to do that, although I will admit gen 1 of the patriot had unreliable transmissions(2007-10) but after that they seem to be pretty reliable. Although I do agree with some of what the video is saying, you also have to account for the other technologies in the vehicle, i.e. the freedom drive II drive system, 4wd lock, traction control and the fact that it is small but still a very capable suv that (In canada at least) is still fairly popular (Probably because of our climate), although I do not agree with your opinion, J C, I can understand your frustration, many people tend to develop stigmas towards a certain car based on one car that happened to be a fluke.

2013 Jeep Patriot owner here. Some complaints are a bit valid such as the weather stripping. Otherwise like others have mentioned not everything is a complete deal breaker. My real only complaint with the Patriots is the CVT is garbage (especially the 4 cylinders). Going up hill in those things are huge transmission killers. If anyone is planning on getting one. Make sure you take the thing up on a actual hill to test it before buying them. If it struggles to go past 60mh or starts making a whining noise, keep looking. Trans replacement is 3-4k used or new. Otherwise the damn thing is dependable from going from point A to B. Never needed to call a tow truck yet on it. It's definitely a blemish for Jeep, but otherwise they are pretty easy to mod and service yourself.

We just got rid of a 2014 model, based on the one we had i would not recommend. The computer chip inside would sometimes freak out if we were going at a fast speed and tell us we were overheating WITHOUT the gauge even going up (because it wasn't actually overheating) & force us to come to a stop on busy highways. In fact it almost ruined our disneyland trip because it chose to do it then for the 1st time and after 15 minutes it finally let us drive again so we drove back the way we came and got a rental for the rest of the way since it was so unreliable. Another problem it has is when you press the gas it refuses to go for awhile. You can slam your foot down on it hard as you can and it won't respond until it wants to. It is also extremely loud,, we could never hear the radio or each other while talking.. We took it in for these issues and the dealership told us nothing is wrong with it, it passed their exams & "this is just the way these are". Since that was just the way it is & doesn't get any better, we swore off jeeps & bought a Toyota highlander, best decision ever for safety & sanity!!

1) it’s a jeep, it isn’t supposed to be the most high tech car out there. 2) I’m 6’3” and I’m perfectly comfortable driving my patriot everyday. 3) I’ll admit, the high altitude isn’t worth the money. 4) Probably because it’s a rental, that’s why there’s excessive wear and tear. And again, a little cheap but why do you need soft touch materials in a jeep? 5) you’re just being repetitive about the cheapness at this point. I drive a 2012 patriot sport with a 2 1/8” lift and i’ve done some other upgrades like a light bar and roof basket and stuff like that and the only other jeep i would drive is a wrangler. the renegade is a fiat and should not be allowed to wear the jeep badge.
@JrsGasolineAlley7 жыл бұрын
Cheapness is the point. It was a 2017 model for 30k. Nothing about that should be cheap. Your "2012 Sport" was a base model and was over 10k less than this. That would have been a good car to purchase back in 2012.

Jr's Gasoline Alley Listen, It’s not jeeps fault you have stubby T-Rex arms, Im 5’11” (Two inches taller then you) and fit just fine in the drivers seat without touching the steering column with my legs, I personally do not have an issue with the gauge cluster either, I feel that it is just fine the way it is, giving the exact info needed just by a glance, I do not have the touchscreen but i have used the same model touchscreen in the dodge grand caravan and I can agree, it is pretty outdated, there are aftermarket ones that i am considering installing, once you’ve owned a jeep patriot for about a your or so you’ll begin to fall in love with it, when i was little my mom had an 07 and I will admit I do have a bit of a sentimental bias towards it because it was the car my childhood was in so i don’t mind the inconvenient quirks, although I don’t see the big deal with the antenna, it doesn’t change anything why complain about that? It’s not even cheap, it’s just not hidden, and gives the car the classic jeep feel.

Not to mention wrenching on it yourself on the rare chance you need to is easier and cheaper then most cars. Honestly in my opinion its an underrated car.

But if you are looking for a simple basic car to get you where you need to go I think it's a good buy.

A few mistakes that pretty much disproves much of your video: 1. The seat back on the drivers side IS adjustable, there’s a little lever directly behind the power control to adjust your seat forward and backward, however, this one does not have height adjustment. 2. The USB on the uconnect screen doesn’t “still have holes where the button should’ve been”. There was originally a cover for that USB port that you could pop on and off so it wouldn’t show and stand out amongst the other buttons. Somebody who drove it before you must’ve pulled it off. All in all, do your research before you go and bash a car that, in my eyes, is perfectly fine. It’s simple, cheap, and reliable. You can’t be expecting much from a car of its price.

I’ve owned one actually. I think they are very nice, simple cars. If I were to recommend this car to someone, I’d say they’d be best for a teen. I wouldn’t buy one brand new, like you said, they are overly priced for what you’re getting with the renegade being on the line up now, which is most likely why they discontinued it. Although there is still false information in the video, this car really needs the right person to buy it.

Jeep patriot for 30k? I don’t think so... this is an all around and off road vehicle.. it’s not a luxury or even a tech SUV. This SUV is perfect if u just drive it and do regular maintenance on it. Don’t care if it’s clean or not, it’s nice to drive cruising by the beach or up the mountains with ur camping gears. It goes wherever u want and don’t care if it gets scratched or dinged. Also has a timeless look which most people goes for and off road. Will last forever.

the #1 bad thing about the Patriot is the driver's seat left bolster. you are sitting on the plastic, side cover/frame. extremely uncomfortable and the piece of plastic breaks every few yrs. other than that, this vehicle (once they worked the kinks out) is a gem. the 6 speed is marvelous and way better than the CVT version, and the revised interior from 8 or so yrs ago makes it a much more enjoyable ride. it's still a tin can, but damn you can pick these things up for super cheap on craigslist and they are so easy to fix. once all of the chrysler junk is taken out and you put in better quality parts this thing will last for many years maintenance free. the full MSRP on these things fully loaded was laughable, the deals were end of the year when the new model year came out. you could practically steal them off the lot they were begging you so much to take them. buddy of mine basically stole a FDII base model that the dealer accidentally ordered. he told the sales manager that it was a base model but he was willing to buy it (the manager came to take a look at it and didn't even realize it was a FDII). my buddy threw out a price that he would consider negotiating, the manager said it's a base model you can have it for even less if you sign now. so he did. got a FDII for under $18K. insane.

Have you ever been inside of a Jeep from the 80s and 90s? The interior on any of them today is light years ahead of the old ones with their crappy little lightweight doors with weak handles on them. You can't expect Lincoln Navigator quality in a base Jeep.

lol a 80-90 Jeep wouldnt cost 30k so good for them. Had 2x TJ and 1x XJ

Well this was suppose to be the cheapest 4x4 on the market, so they skimped many places on purpose; I own a 2014 that is pretty much the exact same, and if you want more, just install after market parts. I recommend getting the sport with the AC upgrade and a few other things then do the rest yourself with after market parts; you save money and end up having a pretty decent Jeep; obviously if you want a luxury sedan get something else, if you want an off road beast, get something else. This is meant as a budget day to day utility driver with inclimate weather and light off road capabilities while keeping the jeep reliability, and style. The above would explain why there are so many on the road still. Additionally with less electronic parts, there is less to go wrong, and it makes it easier to work on what does go wrong; for example my mustangs electric seat switch went bad, and I could not move it forward, with my Jeep I don't have that issue, and if it does get stuck, I can easily unbolt it, clear the races and grease them back up.
@JrsGasolineAlley7 жыл бұрын
I don't think you get it. It is a terrible car for 30k, in 2017. As a cheap SUV, say the sport and latitude versions at around 20-23k with 4x4 made perfect sense. It's just when you use the same vehicle without significant changes for 10 model years it will look cheap and dated by the end.
@Sir_Mikel_Bass7 жыл бұрын
Well mine was around 14K and a 2014; so I can see your point about the fully loaded 2017 version; should be much better for being 3 years newer and a fully loaded version; I guess I missed the mark on that part of it; but yeah, I agree with you on that.

Thanks for your report/review. I never knew the Patriot was so far behind the technology curve. I spent much less than $30K for my 2015 Renegade Latitude and it has Sirius XM radio plus the automatic windows and too many instrument features on the speedometer's perimeter to mention. One thing is lacking - a rear hatch release button on the instrument panel. The nice antenna is there because XM is not. I would not buy that vehicle.

I got the 2017 base model 2nd for 12k. Its called an entry level jeep for a reason but I love it. I saw all the complaints and like others have pointed out, thats stuff that can be upgraded. My wife has a 2016 soul for the same price, more options with the 6 speed and I prefer my jeep. The ride is smoother, handles the bumps well, no issues in down pours here in Washington. Taking it up the pass next month for some boarding, all in a 2wd. Put some good tires on it and it handles fine. The noise, its a jeep, not a luxury suv and it doesnt bother me one bit. I'm sure at some point I will upgrade and move up in the jeep world but again, this is an entry level jeep. The fact that trim costs 30k, not sure about that and I'm gonna research to see if that is true because I havent seen any patriot cost that much. But for you to complain about such unimportant items is ridiculous. Your using it as a rental. I almost didnt buy mine because of people like you until I found a Reddit thread of patriot owners who love it. Your knees hitting the steering column because you want your hand to rest over the wheel, are you serious? Short arms is the issue there, because I havent had that problem and I'm 5´7. You are bias. The patriot is great in alot more ways then it is not, and those bad things are fixable.
@JrsGasolineAlley7 жыл бұрын
At 12k you are correct, the patriot is fine. In fact that the price it should be sold for. Otherwise, this is a poor quality car. Much like the Dodge Journey (Amazing those are still around), these are basically sold with thousands of dollars worth of incentives so that FCA can soak up people's negative equity in their trades. Frankly, this trim level of Patriot starts at 27k, and is just a poor choice.
@wgb_jd5 жыл бұрын
One more thing...the price. I agree 33k is a lot, but have you seen the price of everything else on the market?? The Patriots have always been available with steep discounts. Show me a comparable top trim SUV with leather, sunroof, navi, aluminum rims, etc for 30k. It's pretty slim pickings. Someone once said the interior looks like it was designed by Tupperware, and it's true, but mine still looks mint after 4 years. I rather like it.
