I am an American that has been working on my writing for years. Bought lots of pens, different paper, and even tried going super slow. Your tricks on less joining and less looping made the biggest impact!!!! I think my hands are just too big for loops and lots of joins to feel comfortable. THANK YOU for making this video!

They stopped teaching cursive writing after my aunt graduate. We were instructed to just make the letters as close as possible to what the teacher wrote on the board. I learned more in the first few minutes of this video than I ever got from school. Hi from the US

I learned how to write cursive in India. All students in my class took great pride in owning fountain pens. Fountain pens are slightly tricky to use, especially the new ones. You have to adjust the tip to the position of your hand by using it on glass or on a smooth stone.

I absolutely love your handwriting. I had a high school professor who wrote in this manner and for a while I tried to imitate it. It basically is something of a italic-leaning printing of cursive shapes, but each letter is discreetly formed and connected with the last stroke - there are many breaks in the motion. This is not a fluid technique - it involves lots of lifting to connect the individual letters. I enjoyed writing this way and it was possible to write quite small and still have it be legible and beautiful. However, the demands of note-taking soon had me abandoning this approach because it simply takes too much time and one cannot keep up with a lecture. I took calligraphy in grade school, which essentially taught the Palmer method. That method was allegedly developed to help speed up writing while still maintaining a bit of elegance and, ... most importantly, legibility. However, I never had felt that this flowing style was as legible as a style as you have where letters are formed more discretely and the hand lifts from the page repeatedly. I ended up copying another student's note-taking style which was fast an efficient. Using an italic pen, ... I could achieve some elegance, but expediency ruled my writing. After many years, ... I want to return to a more attractive writing style. I think each individual has to find what works for them and you provide a very rewarding option. Congratulations on the beautiful style you have achieved.

His method is exactly what I was taught in school. They didn't smack our hands with rulers if we held it wrong, but near enough. I realized too late with my son that they apparently don't teach a proper grip anymore. I've seen other young adults holding their pens in the oddest ways and it doesn't look comfortable at all.

I find it interesting how different teaching styles of handwriting in different parts of world can be. In continental Europe (at least in my country), the first thing you are teached in terms of writing is fluency - its exact opposite of writing in rhytmical strokes - you are intended to "draw" letters with from your wrist.... In my country, one of first thing you need to teach are loops - like in cursive "e", "l" or "k" and it seems that American cursive is COMPLETELY different to standard European cursive which has far more rounded letters with loops etc. I have basically two handwritting styles - one of them I "created" for my own usage during high school (basically changing some sort of letters into vertical or horizontal lines - t/l/f - m/n/r) and then during college years, because proper writing is simply impossible when you need to write really fast and many teachers usually speak in normal pace. This handwriting is unreadable for anyone else, but myself - and after some period of time, it may become unreadable for myself. :) My other handwriting style - which I use in common life, when I dont need to hurry that much is quite nice and I would say that mixture of cursive and "printed"

You’re welcome! I should receive it tomorrow 😉 I love this beautiful yet (to me at least) a bit more casual and modern font. I learned the Zaner-Bloser method waaay back in Catholic school. As an senior with some arthritis in my hands and bilateral hand surgery my writing looks sloppy. Your explanation opened my eyes as to why it’s so tight! I recently bought a cartridge pen and I’m wondering where I can get the italic nib. I love the Sanford Calligraphic felt tip pen; people always compliment my penmanship.

Sorry, but your American 'STANDARD' for accurate CURSIVE handwriting is DEFINITELY not 100% correct for each letter, nor is your exercise forming the Os in low case. The low case 'As' are very precise. You do NOT have your paper slanted to the proper distance, and the more you try to write cursive, your fingers grip harder, along with writing straight up.
