I don't know why people like modular. Probably everyone who loves modular dreamed of becoming an astronaut as a child? But unfortunately, not everyone gets a chance to be one. And modular, in its own way, is a space for the most unique sounds.
From a musical point of view, my opinion about modular is that I don’t have the patience to listen to any track made on modular for more than 2 minutes. In other words, modular is a niche in music where tastes can be debated endlessly and for most people this music will cause irritation.
But it’s not bad to have a modular for a purely analog voice and a couple of analog filters. It is from this point of view that I approach my modular interest.
I love only high-quality sound, so I assemble my sound modules myself. And I buy all commercial DIY Kits or ready-made modules only if I can improve the sound and certain parameters.
I assemble the modules in such a way that there are more functions in a smaller area. For example, I got rid of the A118-2 Doepfer module when I assembled my own VСO. I only needed the Doepfer as a noise generator. As a sample hold it was the most useless! Dnipro Krait is many times better as a sample hold. As a result, I got rid of the IO Instrument Themisto VCO and the Rides in the Storm XHM mixer and Rides in the Storm FEG ADSR and the Behringer 140 Dual Envelope.
My modules have everything what I need for my tasks in best HQ.
