Soloed 1985 ASK21, but look 4 decades later Jonker Sailplanes is producing some amazing state-of-the-art sailplanes. Retractable Electric Selflaunch system, barely 400 kilograms and I never say a Max Alt 17000 ft plaque in a glider. Superb stuff!

Wow, what an glider. II learned gliding on an ASK13 and Ka8 back in the days. The most fancy gliider my club has iis an LS4 :-) Now look at this, that's a effing flying powered computer. Nice purchase!

Philip, thanks for the tour! She certainly is state of the art. She's a sight to behold, for sure. I am sure she flies every bit as nicely as she looks. With that sustainer, I'm guessing we won't be hearing many land out stories from you in that ship! Congrats, again - enjoy your time with your JS3.

If I’m doing it right, I’ll still be landing out sometimes. My use case is mostly for self launch.

What an exciting adventure!!! It sounds like you got a really proper checkout from someone who truly understands the systems involved. I can't say this with enough happiness - I hope to see you share many adventures in your new glider - and I hope even more that you enjoy many many adventures in your new glider on your own. I'm SO stinking happy and excited for you!!!! Jason

Post more videos of your JS3 flights and what it's like to get used to the new plane and how it compares to others you have flown.

467 kg as-flown dry. Climb rate should drop 20% at max gross 575 kg...not sure I'll have the opportunity to load it up during the winter though.

Nice! Looking forward to get my RES installed. I've had a season with it as a pure glider now, and it's an awesome glider even then :-)

Just curious. Does the conversion include a bigger tailplane and different tips?

@@sidvalluri1702 It already has the bigger tailplane, but some ballast will be added to the tips

Since it looked like there was soo much space, do you mind me asking how tall you are? Im 6’7” (~198cm) so not ideal. I fit in some AS-Gliders, but better in the stuff like the LS4/LS8. Really trying to get a seating test in all different planes since sadly that’s the first thing that cuts out most planes for me😅
@8OrangePants

I'm just 5'6" (168cm). Although I don't know his size, I did see a very tall pilot fit in the cockpit by removing the seat pan and most of the cushion.

Interesting video - nice to see some of the systems. A great new toy. Can you fly the JS3RES in 15m mode at 525Kg either without batteries, with 1 or 2 ? Can it self launch or self sustain in 15m mode?
@8OrangePants
@8OrangePants 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's totally fine to fly with any number (including 0) batteries and in the 15m configuration as well, although with a single battery not recommended to self-launch.
