Korone was the top runner of the team in the whole event, so it really gets the team spirit up. Subaru who suggested it probably did it before in her real life.

this actually gives high morale boost to the team, like it gives more confidence that you have your team behind your back that gives you strength. this is true irl, especially in sports and group/team-related works, which reminds you to give your best, and if your best wasn't good enough, you remember that you have your team to back you up. the thing they did here is the same thing you witness in sports before the actual game starts, the members gather around, then they shout, or they slap each other's back to give his confidence back, 'cause the pressure in the actual game is higher than practice games.

Korone and Okayu both did well considering that they don't play Minecraft as often as most of the others and didn't put in as much practice as Ame and Fubuki did (both practiced that course for literal hours and had split timers set up like they were doing an RTA/Speedrun). There's no shame in being third and fourth place when the two fastest runners out of the whole competition are 1 and 2 in front of you. Subaru also really lived up to her original lore of being a sports club manager and lead her team quite well, both encouraging and uplifting them for their efforts in every game they played and making sure that, if they didn't win, they didn't get too down about it.
