What City basically want to obtain here is that the Premier League rules relating to sponsorship are unfair and discriminatory towards them preponderently. So they are essentially saying that, if a sponsorship deal is concluded betwen City and a given company, (let's call it company A), whereby company A pays City £750 million per month for a shirt sponsorship let's say, the Premier League shouldn't intervene and claim this particular deal is inflated, because the sum of money is way higher than what other clubs are making. The sum I provided is just an example, but they are trying to obtain a ruling where any sum would be possible. The problem arises when company A is owned by the same people who own Man City, or otherwise affiliated with them. I would be as if Elon Musk bought Ipswich Town tomorrow and concluded a sponsorship deal between Ipswich and Twitter where Twitter pays Ipswich £900 million/month for shirt sponsorship. I think this is clearly a problem, because it's just another way of pumping the owner's money into the club, and so does the Premier League, but Man City are fighting to get a ruling saying that it should be fair game, that's what's happening

Anyone that watched the documentary on Manchester City would know that the CAS officials were incredibly dodgy and City managed to get an unfair advantage in court. Another issue was the time bar UEFA has that the EPL doesn't. You never beat UEFA, you got off on dodgy officials (likely bribery) and a technicality. This is completely different, if City wins this case it would cause a civil war within the EPL and could kill English football. This isn't a good thing, every cheat sues their prosecutor when they have no other options. Manchester City are "upset" because they say 3rd party commercial deals shouldn't be regulated as it's "anti-competitive", that's the most obvious bullshit I've seen.
