Love those peacocks n Happs had them for years n could never find the right balance of aggression no matter what I did n trust me I tried it all over the 20yrs I had them...I finally have peace w frontosa n geophagus these days no more stress...but those Africans sure are ppl pretty.

I find that fish color up real nice if you leave the lights off most of the time. The constant light stresses them a lot imo. When I’m not watching them lights go out. Keeps some aggression down too

Thanks John. Yea it's definitely not a cheap hobby that's for sure. I started my tank back up last year after years of not having one. Slowly picking things up to make it better. Gotta love this community for all the help they can provide. It's one big fish family here on KZbin.

I've found that having many hiding places for the sub-dominant males is the best. Rock formations to create caves is what I do as well. Changing the positioning of tank decorations has helped too so they can re-establish territory. I have 7 Mbuna & one turquoise jewel cichlid in a 40 gal breeder. Their average size is about 3 inches.

Definitely a female dolphin. The fish look great. The color will come back. These fish are crazy. Lol that Benga is Rollin. Always wanted one of those vacs. Lol the dragon blood is use to being caught. I had a borleyi, gorgeous fish, just mean as hell.
@JSpalding
@JSpalding 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mr H. The dolphins were small when I picked them up and didn't know what they were. You can clearly see who the males/female are. Hopefully it doesn't take long to get them to color back up. The sunshine is awesome. The vacs work like a charm. I think Jay Wilson uses them as well. It's a love hate thing about the dragonblood and borleyi. It's funny how you can see the change in the pecking order when u take certain fish out. Interesting for sure. Thanks again bro for checking out my vid and giving great feedback.

My experience is in community tanks Haps do not always keep their color as bright depending on hierarchy. I use Omega African Cichlid color food,Fine chopped artificial crab meat,Vegi-Flakes, and live food from time to time. I have had great results with color being vibrant on all of them. My Sunshine Peacock can be a little bully at times toward my Red Shoulder Peacock, but for the most part he stays colored up. I have found a varied diet does more for fish than anything else you can do besides providing them great water conditions with a lot of water changes:P

Tank is still looking great, I agree that they've colored down due to pecking order adjustments. I recently got a red peacock from a LFS in my quarantine, I wasn't sure if it's Eureka Red or Ruby Red, but he looks very similar to yours, if he ends up with half the color that yours have, I'll be happy :) Love the Sunshine peacock as well!

I have had the sand for a few months now and i fully cleaned it before I put it in the tank, both of my filters are fully cycled, ive herd alot of good things about the chemi-pure. As far as feeding I only feed my fish twice a day once in the morning and once in the early evening. Maybe I will give chemi pure a shot and see how it works.

I really need your help!! I had three cichlids in a tank, and they only grow up to be about 6-4 inches. I don't know what type they are. When i bought them the sign said "assorted cichlids", and when i put them in my tank two of them bred. I can only find one baby that hides that is about half an inch long. The ones that bred are only about three inches long. After a short time of the baby being around the one that had not bred, the one that didn't breed had died.I want to buy more cichlids as my tank is understocked. Would it be okay if I were to introduce more?

Badass broski. I do have a question, im dealing with some cloudy water and ive tried a water change and skimmed the sand to get all the poop out. I even went out and bought seachem purigen as well as filter floss for my canister. I also bought seachem clairty and nothing is working. I see that your water is clear and my question is how do I fix this cloudy water situation im having.

Thanks bro. For media in my filters I use Chemi-Pure Elite, Purigen, Biohome Ultimate media. I also use Easy Life Fluid Filter Medium as well every so often when I do water changes. My filters are well cycled. How long have you had the pool filter sand? Repeated washing of it before putting it in? Is your filter fully cycled? Are you cleaning your filters wrong? There is a lot to consider. If it hasn't been running a while then it might not be fully cycled. Let me know anything else. I'll try n help. If I can't help there's always someone who might have an idea. :-)

Lol..yeah nothing special for lighting yet..wanna get some zoo med flora sun or something like that...maybe go marineland led in the future..thought about painting the back black...I painted my 80 gal super show a light blue cause everyone does a dark blue then had left over live sand from a saltwater tank and used that...Jag likes moving it around. What would you recommend for lighting on it?
@JSpalding
@JSpalding 10 жыл бұрын
Well I would definitely recommend going led. There are a lot of great options to choose from. Current USA Satellite LED+, Marineland, Finnex, Beadwork etc. It's all in what you think will best suit you and your tank. Do some research and compare. You will find something you will be happy with.

I bhought a black auratus one year ago, and 1 week after he or she became grey.... is there any reason ? he's the dominant fish without being too agressive (he usually break fights)

Possibly going through the maturing stages. Those guys are super aggressive mbunas.

what do you mean by juiced? Do fish stores give fish hormones in order to color them up? can I buy these hormones to juice up my fish?
@JSpalding
@JSpalding 9 жыл бұрын
Juiced is hormoned fish to show lots of color at a young age so they sell easier. They do it to females as well so they look male. Not that I know of. Just do your 50% water changes and feed quality fish food like new life spectrum

I see what you mean about your borleyi,He's a lighting bolt. My red shoulder is my issue I just got rid of that girl an come to find out that dull o.b. I had was a girl also. caught my red shoulder with here last night. I dont know if just having a girl in your tank regardless of what specific breed of fish causes the aggression.(now that I think of it thats how we get hybrids) Imma start there by just removing all females. love the lighting an background

Thanks. Yea I'm thinking the female dolphin is causing a lot of aggression. I always see a different male doing the dance with her but nothing yet. As soon as she is holding I'll pull her out and probably get rid of it. There's always a douche in a tank. Typical haha
@Bandicoot1936
@Bandicoot1936 10 жыл бұрын
good move ron. ime any females of any type is going to cause issues. the urge to mate is so strong they'll fight endlessly despite the breed. that's what sucks about mbuna. you don't know what the hell your getting unless you know how to vent them.

It's a Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump 750/850 gph. Rated for up to a 90g freshwater tank. Works great. I like these because they have a suction cup and magnet to stay in place. I'd suggest atleast getting this size for up to a 90g unless you want to circulate more water.

J spalding I have a 10gallon tank. Would it be ok if I have about 2-3 cichlid in my tank?
@JSpalding
@JSpalding 9 жыл бұрын
Hey Lee. In all honesty, I would only use a 10g tank for a quarantine setup in case one of your Africans were sick. I would suggest going as big as possible for the tank.

Are mbunas the only Africans that need caves or can I have haps and peacocks with driftwood and stuff?
@JSpalding
@JSpalding 10 жыл бұрын
Mbunas love hiding spaces. Peacocks and Haps are more open water swimmers but like some hiding spots as well. My big blur Ahli loves hiding behind rockwork. Driftwood would work as well.

A lot of the haps get quite big and they need the extra space for territory reasons. Also, the bigger the tank the quicker they grow. Thanks for watching and don't forget to Subscribe if you haven't already.

Depends on which species you want to keep. I would only suggest like 12 or so. Always go as big as you can tank wise. Africans I'd suggest doing some research and see which ones don't get really big. That's my opinion. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

@JSpalding 10 жыл бұрын
African Cichlids are supposed to be crowded to keep the aggression down so they wont single out one particular fish. I've taken out and sold/traded some Africans that weren't getting along with the other tank mates. As with most African Cichlid videos here on KZbin, they are all crowded for that reason.

im so sad i just bought one of those blue dolphins and it got beaten to death by my peacocks, other than that, i would NOT release that small fish you got in the breeder net into the tank, he is a target to the first fish(s) who thinks it looks similar to him and will be terminated on sight, trust me 90$ later i learned my lesson, re-tank or return him or else....
