I love this version because Alexander shows so much emotion and regret in his choice to kill Jesus!

He really grew on me, his emotion shows he doesn’t have any interest in sentencing a “mad man” to death He flogs him, but for his sake, his position. He crucified JC

I think Alexander Hanson is really good, but I don’t think there will EVER be one better than Barry Dennen. The way Barry Dennen mocks Jesus with the way he says silly words is brilliant. The point is that Pilate didn’t want to have Jesus killed. Thats why there are lines like: ‘He’s done no wrong’ and ‘I need a crime.

This is the most intense scene in the arena tour show imo. The villains, Pontius Pilate included, have largely been played for comedy camp up til now, but in this scene Alexander Hanson is playing Pilate with deadly seriousness. The crowd calling for Jesus's death, and the guitar riff from "Heaven on Their Minds" playing during the 39 lashes while the blood spatter on the video screen grows and grows until it's almost a complete wash of red...it was literally breathtaking the first time I watched it.

I really like Pilate's tone when he says "you're a fool Jesus Christ - How can I help you?" because it's a certain kind of emotion I can't really express in words. He's schocked, he's scared of this truth, he's denying it, like "No, this cannot be! There must be a way... I can't - How can I help you? How can you possibly be so quiet when you will be killed?!" He doesn't understand, he's desperate, panicking, he doesn't know what to do and just can't understand how Jesus can be so calm. It's so many emotions and such a change of tone in a few seconds, at this part his despair really comes through for the first time. It has been there before, but now you can see it clearly, he doesn't want this. So yeah, that's why I find this so cool.

The guitar riff while jebus get whipped is the best part in my opinion of the score. The build is intense!

@@kasendoel3353 It's also in the overture(which is basically, in of itself, an instrumental summary of this number to the symphonic opening of the title song), which I feel not only sets up visually the world we are in for the rest of the show, but also could be interpreted as looking through a window into Judas's mind before pulling back outside suddenly(by the abrupt ending of the title song opening) as Judas stops to see the chorus vocalizing the "On Thursday Night" melody he himself later sings at the end of "Damned for All Time/Blood Money", which is then followed by the "Well done/So Long Judas" chords being played by the strings at the end. That would make this guitar solo appearing in "Heaven on Their Minds" almost like Judas is having a near accurate vision of whats to come, but without the context needed for it to make sense of HOW this would happen(like how in the Disney Channel show "That's so Raven", when Raven has her sidekick visions, they’re sometimes shown so out of context that Raven doesn't realize till later in the episode how they will actually play out) until it is too late. For it to appear again in G minor when Judas hangs himself is pretty much him envisioning how he will end his own life knowing how damned he pretty much is by that point. For this matter, I consider calling this guitar solo the "Torture" Leitmotif, as it appears whenever things have become(or are yet/set to become) the most grim and brutal mentally(Judas's prediction and meltdown) or physically(Jesus being whipped here) in the story. It only appears in the Overture/Trial and in Heaven as the catalyst needed to set into motion what happens for the rest of the plot till it appears again now, with OUR full understanding of what's to happen WITH context in tact! (It’s second to last appearance in Judas’s Death can also be seen, of course, as Judas starting to realize the true and uncontainable extent of his visions in his most vulnerable moment) What do you guys think? :)

I find this song a very good rendition although I have a slight problem with it. Jesus isn't supposed to grunt when he is whipped, which is why Pilate asked why he was so silent. I think this is the only one where Jesus expresses his pain as he is flogged.
