That's a helluva lot of work to make the humble ice cube. I shall raise my glass to these fine folk next time I have a scotch on the rocks.

I wonder what they use pure ice for. In the US we just freeze water out of the tap. It's all very interesting. If the Japanese or Koran do it they have a good reason. This ice looks like it is for personal use. What a lot of work for a little ice you can get in your refrigrater. I fact there are ice machines in all hotels, motels, resturates. etc. but this is labor intensive for perfectly clear ice.

Late with the reply. It has nothing to do with being OC. Japanese tap water is typically soft, which is not the best for commercial ice making. Also it contains numerous minerals which would damage the ice making machinery, thereby using purified water is best for machinery longevity.
