@@JayCarver it’s these sort of formatting standards that give me headaches, even if they’re simple. It’s just what I pay the least attention to after trying to write succinct, but creative, action and compelling, engaging dialogue.

@@jimjo8541 the story should always come first, but for the most part your writing software should handle most of this stuff. If you read or scan through a lot of free screenplays, that's always a good source on how the visuals were formatted to. You'll start to notice, as long as it's clear, that the formatting is very basic after a while.

Count me I want to learn about screenwriting after I earned my GED which I already plan. I want to get my GED 1st then get persue my film career I want to do screenplays, acting, directing, & producing. My question to can I do screenplays on animation ?
@JayCarver3 жыл бұрын
You can write screenplays on whatever you like, but to be honest 99% of animation movies are done by writers in-house at places like Pixar, Disney or anywhere else that can afford to produce and distribute them. They typically are super expensive to do and they do not search for ideas outside of their internal writing staff.

what if i wanted to write the dialogue in 2 different languages one character in say French and the other n English, do i have too put the english translated part under the dialogue?
@JayCarver2 жыл бұрын
Couple ways you can do this. You can write the dialogue in English for character 1 as you normally would but put (Speaking in French) as parentheticals just under the character's name and before the dialogue. Or you could just have character 1 speaking in French AND you type out their dialogue in French WITHOUT translating it. The first method is good for letting the reader know that perhaps there may be subtitles on screen so the audience knows what's being said, but maybe the English speaking character does not understand French. The second method is for when you don't even want the audience to know what was being said in French unless they just so happen to know the language.

I see that you use Final Draft. Is there a reason you treat the secondary headings as action lines and not scene headings?
@JayCarver3 жыл бұрын
Yea, it's shorthand so that it's clear the secondary scenes latter up to the master scene which I treat as a true scene heading format. Saves space and is more clear at a glance that we are still at the master location. All just my preference. No hard rules around this.

Is Scene writing and screen writing same thing?
@elsalvaje62092 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm working on my script right now I got 53 pages so far but I'm trying to make my jawn look as professional as possible I just had one question if I want to like do one scene where one girl and one guy make physical contact and they somehow go into another world sub consciously how would I put that in there? Like what would I put in it?
@JayCarver2 жыл бұрын
When you say you wanna make it look professional are you talking about the overall visual presentation? Because any screenwriting software will do that. To write the scene you're talking about there are a number of ways. Depends on how you write it. You can describe how they touch and then just CUT TO the next scene and describe where they are. Their actions should let us know if this was intentional, a mystery or they are confused, etc. Or you can just use some type of transition that is super literal letting the reader know what just happened. At any rate, it just needs to be clear enough for the person who would be viewing it without the aid of your script. Only write and describe things that can be filmed with a camera. Show don't tell is one of the only rules I follow.

Scene headings and sluglines are two different things
@therealfrankwhite Жыл бұрын
That's absolutely not true. The word slugline is derived from journalism, but is used interchangeably with scene headings in screenwriting.
