his playing is impeccable. I have this feeling though, that a lot of people don't fully understand exactly how rare his ability to play is. He is doing so much so effortlessly, and so smoothly, and so quickly, that unless you listen to guitarists all the time, you wouldn't realize what is filling out the sound so much. There are 5 second sections of these songs that even some advanced guitarists might take months to learn, and maybe not even then. He has a gift.

So, I don't know about anyone else, but the most mind-blowing thing I heard this guy do was pull off some of the craziest licks out of Ron Thal's playbook. It's amazing how players like this seemingly come out of nowhere. I wish him the utmost success, and I'll definitely be following him from here forward!

i wasn't judging you at all, simply making a point. blazing technique certainly does not equate music, but that doesn't mean that a technical piece implies an absence of emotion. that opening piece was the most exciting thing i've heard in a while, and a frantic blizzard of notes expresses something that slowing it down will never achieve.

I think the section at 1:38-1:52 is more than enough for me. Specially the way he ends it with that tremolo picking idea at 1:51. That was a great combination of technique and songwriting.

The issue is that I DO appreciate it. I DO understand exactly what he's doing. I've played guitar for almost 40 years. I've met Shawn Lane in person. I've played a LOT of notes. But your inability to not prejudge doesn't make you a bad person. :)

It's ridiculous how phenominal players like this seemingly come out of nowhere. I've never heard of this guy until now, and I've been up on the underground players of the shred scene for a long time now. That stuff he was doing with the thimble was straight out of the Ron Thal playbook. I imagine Ron must have been one of this guy's primary influences -- technique-wise, at least. I'll be keeping an eye on this dude, for sure!
