We once ate at O'Shehans on prime rib night and we both like rare beef. When we ordered I asked for rare that just mood! The waiter brought us the rarest prime rib that we have ever seen! Not wanting to send it back we ate nearly raw beef! It was good and I won't joke with a foreign waiter again!

I don't think you can actually get proper rare steak on a cruise (at least, not without going for a luxury line). There's too much risk that if the kitchen messes it up, you could get a bit of food poisoning, which the cruise line absolutely does not want to risk. So medium-rare is the best you'll get, and that's if you're lucky.

I used to be with someone who only did "well done" sucks for her... I'm a medium well to medium rare guy myself. So in a pinch I will try rare, but not well done anymore. Char is good but never burnt!!!

We sailed on Viva just after you did. Cagney's was a quite a let down. The best steak on the ship was had at Onda, and the no extra cost Hudson's NY Strip was better than Cagney's.

Regarding rare meat....... My dad always said, with a good vet it could recover! I'm not a fan of rare. Its just the idea of it for me. I prefer medium. I don't want any blood running on my plate.
