I retired from the Navy as an AD. "O" and "I" refer to 2 of the 3 different levels of Aviation maintenance. The third is Depot level which is mainly performed by civillians. Look at it like this: o - level performs every day maint. to the engine and related systems. You work at the hangar. If/when that engine needs to be taken apart for inspections, high time or repair, you remove it from the aircraft and send it to AIMD ( Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department) to be taken apart. You dont want I level if you want to work on the flight deck. Hope this helped. Good luck!

:) good choice basically get into either AM, AD,AT,AE,or AO and get to a helo squadron, then get deployed to a carrier and get your LSE qual :) its mostly OJT training
