@@jtmoffroad I'm not sure why you don't see a lot of explorers out there. I've wondered that myself. Great rear ends good Transmissions available with an 8-cylinder, I don't know why. I'm a low rider guy not an off road guy so I couldn't tell you

I don’t think they have solid front axles. Might have something to do with that for aftermarket support and prob have to put a lot of lift on to get a decent sized tire on. Just a guess I don’t know for sure haha

All four driving is a big advantage, I have exactly the same setup in my TJ but with 37's and 4:88 gears. I always carry spare front axle shafts because I believe that's the weakest link in my Jeep, could be wrong.. but this winter I plane on adding Yukon gear lockout hubs. Awesome video as always, someday we'll cross paths since we go to a lot of the same places. Rock on.. Southington Sept. 1.
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
Nice! I really wanna go bigger with the gears too. I’d like to go bigger than 4.88s if I could but then I gotta get a different front axle. Do you have a 4 cyl too? How much of a difference does the 4.88s make? Probably will! Only a matter of time!

@@jtmoffroad I have a 2.4l but I put a turbo charger off of a SRT-4 neon. Same basic motor. I only run around 6psi of boost but it helps a lot. S all t4 spools up really quick for off road. The gears really helped too, with 35's it was perfect, between the extra wieght of the 37's and dia. difference it did make it a bit more sluggish on the road but nothing to bad. You could probably put the same turbo on your 2.5 if you wanted to. I had to machine an adapter plate to flip the manifold upside down and put the turbo at the front, I don't see why you couldn't adapt from a 2.5 block to a 2.4 exhaust manifold..
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
That’s sweet I’ve heard about people doing that! How does the turbo help out when crawling? I would think you’d see power more with more wheel speed but then again I don’t know exactly how that all works.
@davemartin15176 жыл бұрын
@@jtmoffroad it starts boosting around 1800rpm. It hits 6psi around 2000 under load. It works really well. I estimate around 190-200 hp. with it at 3500. My engine is 147 stock with 10.5:1 compression. I've been running it for about 5 years now with no issues.
@davemartin15176 жыл бұрын
@@jtmoffroad was gonna paste a picture but I can't figure out how or if it's even possible. Turbos are cool though, as soon as your engine is under load they start boosting, if they aren't under load and no more power is needed they don't boost. Since it is a small dia. T4 it will start making boost almost as soon as you hit.tje gas pedal if needed so it does work great on hills, rocks , mud or whenever power is needed, wheel speed makes no difference.

Did anyone air down? I know it sounds silly to ask, but it was hard to tell just looking...seemed like air wasn't terribly low in those tires on the shots I saw. If they didn't I understand why they might not have wanted to if it was really muddy or they were driving back in the same vehicle and no air was available. Made me cringe looking/listening with all the metal getting scraped on the difs, springs and rims, but meh. Seems like a lot of drivers were just throwing their vehicles at stuff without thinking it through too hard. haha. I ain't got that kinda cash to throw down so...
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
Yea we aired down. I agree it’s hard to tell sometimes if they’re aired down. I was aired down to 9 and a lot of others do 10 or lower depending on their wheel and tire combo. Haha man that day was nothing but wet rocks. As much as you tried to go in one direction and crawled, the rocks had a different plan for you. Thanks for the comments!

I disagree with you locker theory. I will never weld a rear axle again. Only a front if I have locking hubs. Locking the rear hurts steering in the woods. A selectable in the rear is good because you can unlock it but it's the growing opinion that locked front and open rear is better 90% of the time than locked rear and open front. Add selectable in the rear and you have everything.....
@jtmoffroad6 жыл бұрын
Just from the stuff we do I’d much rather lose steering capability in the woods. More turns is worth it to me if I get all wheels turning to get up obstacles. The welded rear isn’t permanent. A selectable rear would be the goal but that comes with money. Wheelin on a budget gotta pick and choose
