I appreciate everyone's comments on the video. This project was the biggest undertaking for me yet, taking almost four months of work to create. I basically started it right after my Star Trek III "Returning to Spacedock" video back in April. The "Mars Battle" scene took almost half that time just to conceptualize. The element I'm most proud of is the music leading to the battle, that was the part I was worried about the most. While listening to various tracks from the movie that I could use, I found "The Whaler" track seemed to fit so perfectly for the build up to the battle I just had to use it. Here is a list of all the ships that participated in the "Mars Battle" scene. The ship classes/names and registry: Constellation Class: USS Constellation NCC-1974 Akula Class: USS Apollo NCC-1355 Constant Class (Akula like ship with both nacelles on bottom): USS Jupp NCC-1911 Miranda Class: USS Oberon NCC-1806 Akyazi Class: USS Akyazi NCC-1010 Oberth Class: USS Shepard NCC-631 Akula Type 2 (no bottom nacelle): USS Arafat NCC-802 Okinawa Class: USS Torishima NCC-304 Bonus: The constitution inside spacedock is USS Intrepid NCC-1730 based on the movies script. Miranda inside spacedock I went with USS Lantree NCC-1837. Enjoy!

What was said in TMP was that the only ship in INTERCEPTION range was The Enterprise. Not that there weren't other nearby ships. Remember, the Enterprise at the time of TMP was a state of the art, top of the line, fastest ship in the fleet. I twas the *very* best that Starfleet could muster. IE: All the other ships in the area were markedly slower. And after what happened to the Klingons, it was pretty clear that no show of force was going to do anything. You could have had a hundred starships firing at V'ger and it would have done nothing. It was better to have them maintain their assigned patrols and keep any other powers from trying shit. As to TNG, Starfleet lost its local core fleet at Wolf 359. Other thing to really really truly keep in mind here is that back in the time of TNG and the Treks before it... Space was treated as what it is. Really, really big. Yeah, Federation starships are ridiculously fast, but they're also really far apart. Even local trips inside of Federation space can take days, weeks, even months. Just the little raining cruise in Wrath of Khan took half a day to get to the Mutara sector from Near the Sol system.

@silkwesir14443 жыл бұрын
"emphasize" isn't quite the right word, I'd say. He increased its size! In the movie, there is a scene where you seem the Saratoga right next to the probe, which is the best scene in the movie to judge the scale of the probe. That's the only scene actually which gives any scale to the probe, in all other scenes there is either nothing else seen together with the probe, or (in case of the Starbase) in such a way that you cannot tell how big is it due to perspective. So the Saratoga drifting beneath the probe gives the only indication of the size of the probe. Obviously it's pretty big. However, in the recreation video above, that scene was not recreated, however a very similar scene was included. But strangely, the probe is much bigger in comparison to the Saratoga than in the movie... I'd say by a factor of 4. No idea why he did that. Jason T, if you read this: why did you do that?
@SGTBizarro3 жыл бұрын
The perspective of the original Saratoga shot is a bit misleading, considering the probe completely shrouded Spacedock in shadow as it passed by later. Director of Photography Don Dow stated that, as far as in-universe dimensions were concerned, "it was to be five miles long and a mile-and-a-half wide." 2400 meters in diameter and 8000 meters long. So the width would be almost 17 constitution class refit saucer sections. This recreation may be sized up slightly but definitely not 4x.

The addition of the extra ships falling to the probe and the attempt to intercept it by a hastily assembled fleet was a good addition - it gives the impending danger time to mature from a strange encounter to something hugely unstoppable. The way it simply ignores the attacking ships and snowploughs them with it's signal is really very good signalling that this is a power way beyond Starfleet's ability to confront.

Absolutely awesome. My sincere respects! I also love the recreation of the Golden Gate Sequence, it really shows the size difference between the Enterprise and a BoP, that fits beneath the bridge, while the Enterprise needs to pass above.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! For several years now, I thought about what ST:IV would have been like if the Enterprise survived ST:III. Back in November I created a template shot using a still image from the movie and the Enterprise model seen here. I wanted to see how that shot would look instead of the Bird of Prey. But after a minute or two of research I knew using the original framing was not going to work. So I decided to have her just miss the spire instead. This shot is actually a prototype for an entire video for ST:IV replacing the BoP with the Enterprise that I'll attempt someday. ;)

Love the extra ship shots. And it makes sense that the solar system would have starships there to defend it. I find it ridiculous that the movies never made an open attempt. What were the ships of the task force: names, classes, registries? It isn't easy to pause and see on a phone.

The ship classes/names and registry: Constellation Class: USS Constellation NCC-1974 Akula Class: USS Apollo NCC-1355 Constant Class (Akula like ship with both nacelles on bottom): USS Jupp NCC-1911 Miranda Class: USS Oberon NCC-1806 Akyazi Class: USS Akyazi NCC-1010 Oberth Class: USS Shepard NCC-631 Akula Type 2 (no bottom nacelle): USS Arafat NCC-802 Okinawa Class: USS Torishima NCC-304 Bonus: The constitution inside spacedock is USS Intrepid NCC-1730 based on the movies script. Seeing the fleet advance on the Probe would have been a really neat sequence had they had the budget to create it. I imagine the Probe would own them even worse, because they rely on their ships and tech to survive. I reckon it would interfere with Borg implants in their bodies along with their ship's systems. The Borg use their tech to adapt.. how can they do that when their tech is effectively neutralized?
@the_once-and-future_king.3 жыл бұрын
@@terrywest111 The problem was that the Borg had destroyed one of the worlds carrying sentient cetaceans. The Borg responded to the Probe's approach with a hugely devastating attack. The Probe immediately wiped out all the cubes but damage had been done to its memory. Whole swathes of information was lost, so it went back to its basic mission, protect the young cetaceans from the space-borne 'bubbles' (the Probe's description of starships) and destroy any 'mites' (lifeforms) infesting the cetacean worlds.

@johnbockelie38993 жыл бұрын
The Yorktown later on becomes the Enterprise A, to replace the original ship. The Yorktown Captain explains that the chief engineer is putting up a solar sail to hopefully restore some power for the ship.So, hopefully this crew survived their ordeal. Don't know about the Saratoga. This also explains why the Enterprise was so full of bugs on Star Trek 5. " She needs a proper shake down." The probe interrupted the one she was taking originally.
@acmenipponair3 жыл бұрын
@@johnbockelie3899 When you see the end of the movie, you see that when you were out of distance or also the probe ended sending the signal, you were fine again. the Saratoga was in another star system, so that ship should be fine when the probe was far away enough. The ships at Mars gained their energy back when the probe ended sending the signal through the sol system. I would say, that the crew of the Yorktown survived, but only because Kirk was able to get the whales. Don't forget, that from the scene of the Saratoga to when Kirk came back from the time warp it was only 1-2 hours - the Botany Bay was already on their way towards Earth, as they never went into impulse power, they just swapped past the probe unscraped in some seconds, made their round around the sun and literally thanks to Spocks brilliant guessings came out of time warp loop with the same loop, so no second had passed then. Give them with warp 8 half a Minute or so to earth, they then went out of warp, encountered the probe, crashed into the SF bay and released the whales. All over all one or two hours maximum, so the crews are fine.
