Juan, your channel really makes me happy and proud. Thanks for addressing the “Men That Crochet” topic. We are definitely here and love our craft. I do crochet in public. I have two or three crochet buddies (female co-workers) that meet once or twice a month at a local Panera and we crochet together. Frankly, there have been no raised eyebrows or turned heads.

If men were not meant to crochet or knit, I'm sure Mother Nature would have made it physically impossible for us to do so.

I was a cross stitcher before getting into crochet, and I stitched with several men. My husband's 96 year old aunt has dish clothes that her father crocheted. I love doing needlework of any type with men: I love the variety of projects, different eye for color combinations, and yes just the conversation---less snarky (usually lol) and different viewpoints. 🙂

Something that always strikes me about your videos where you talk about yourself and your life is how you have worked so hard to overcome adversity. It’s very inspiring for people to hear that. There are a lot of people who are struggling with their health, their finances, bullying, etc. It sounds like you have been through a lot in your life and you have overcome and excelled in so many areas. I’m so glad that you shared your life with us.

Juan, you are a man of many colors. I am so impressed by all you have accomplished, your scholastic degrees, your recovery from health issues, all the things, but most of all your skill and dedication to the craft and your love of crochet and yarn. You are a breath of fresh air to the yarn community. I love BOD, but you are a different take...Love your channel. Hope you will consider starting a second channel where all your tutorials will reside. I get happy when I see that you dropped a new video. On the way to 10k...🎉

“Drink with class” lol!! That just hit me at the right time and I laughed so hard-made my day!!! I think it’s great that you are so considerate of others when deciding what tutorials to do. However, I think if there is ever a tutorial you want to do but it’s already been done a ton, you should still do it. Because we are all different, we connect with others differently and while I love some channels, there are ones I cannot watch/follow their tutorials. Especially since you are a fellow lefty crocheter, its really hard to find good tutorials that I enjoy watching and following along with. Love your channel so much!

Although there are lots of tutorials on the same things, I choose certain creators to use videos based on them and their talents alone. Please don't be shy about making similar videos to someone else. Everyone has their own teaching style and some are much easier to follow than others making the same things.

Thank you for answering a lot of questions about yourself, and your craft. It's hard when you don't want to "put yourself out there" because most people are very private. You have a way of relating enough to satisfy your peers. Everyone deserves privacy and you are no exception 😊. Thank you for sharing your self, and your passion. I think it's GREAT that you are almost at100K !!! Congratulations 🎉🎉 I look forward to your videos, just as much as BOD's, and Crochet Crowd. I wish you well Juan! Have a great day 😊

Full disclosure... I am a hard-core knitter, and ADORE you & your channel. It's delightful to see more men involved in the fiber arts, and your support for value yarns means a lot to me. No shame or judgement; just being creative. BTW, your haircut is great (it highlights those amazing eyes of yours) and never apologize for the greys. At almost 71, most of mine are grey with some S&P in back. Thanks for bringing us new and different content. Best wishes on reaching 10K soon!

Fun fact: knit and crochet STARTED with men! It was something that primarily came from fishermen that had extra time on the boats. They then taught their wives and children. Eventually, I believe in the 17 and 1800s, it became known as a "women's craft", which was then strengthened by Victorian rules of society. We're just now getting to where men are being more open about it and fewer people care to be negative towards them for it, which I'm glad about. Men have a valuable POV to add to the craft. I have two sons and they would be as bold as their sister to do fiber arts even if it were taboo, but it's nice to know they can make creations and feel free to share them with people outside of the family if they want to.

I loved the Q & A sessions, Juan. You have certainly done a lot of things, so far, in your lifetime. Quite the well rounded individual and will certainly be doing much more. You are most interesting! In particular, i really enjoyed your comments on cooking and eating out. I agree with you completely. I love cooking and enjoy my own food too. After all, anything you can get in a restaurant, can be made at home. It's better, safer and much cheaper, for sure. But we aren't here to talk food. I'm waiting for some more tutorials. I've made one of your hats, the Metro beanie.Have not done the scarf yet. I love the hat and plan on making more in different colors. I love the simplicity of it. I have lots of hats. Many are Crystal's patterns, many are purchased. Wide brimmed, baseball, turbans, crocheted, knitted. I do love hats! I'm enjoying your content very much and look forward to seeing much more. Peace and happiness to you! 💕💕💕

I am older than you and still do not know what I want to be when I grow up. I noticed one question that no one has asked you yet. You say you have a translation business. Which languages do you personally speak? English is pretty obvious. American sign language is also obvious. What others? Thank you for a wonderful Q & A session. See you in the next one.

Watching this today. I’m glad to see you know who The Crochet Crowd is. While there are lots of tutorials out there, everyone has their preferences. There is always room for more. Everyone has their own style and again, everyone knows their preferences. As a VERY seasoned crocheter, please don’t feel you are stepping on anyone’s toes. Unless you are teaching someone else’s pattern without their permission, you aren’t stepping on anyone’s toes. There are lots of teachers of all kinds of subjects all over the world. I think there are even more students. If you are confident in your skills, which you appear to be, you aren’t stepping on anyone if people ask you to teach them. Ok. That’s my novella for today. 💜💜💜 Oh, and transmissions are hard. Personal knowledge. 😜

The more I watch your videos, the more you fascinate me. You're like an onion---so many layers. If you want to do more tutorials, go for it. Some folks learn better from others. My friend couldn't teach me to crochet---I couldn't even understand the slip knot. None of it made sense. Fast forward a couple of years: I signed up for an 8 week course at our county night school. Teacher was a 74 yo man, and things finally clicked for me. Do your thing, Juan---we'll be following.

Juan, I appreciate you not wanting to step on any other creators patterns and content but, please, keep in mind that although there are 1000's of creators , not every creator connects with every person. There are many creators who put out great patterns and instruction that I cannot listen to. There is just something about their voice, personality or delivery that I don't enjoy. You are one of the creators that I truly enjoy watching. You voice, your body language, your confidence are attractive to me so, please, put out whatever content your big ole heart desires and don't be concerned so much with stepping on someone's crochet hook. K? There is plenty of room for all. I do request you play the viola sometime on camera. 🙂.

Hi Juan, I’m into part two of the Q&A right now. I put you on pause because I’m listening to you talk about your most favorite stitch and the one you dislike the most. I also was paying attention when you were talking about how you liked recording tutorials. Well, I’ve got a least liked stitch that I would love for you to do a tutorial on. I want so badly to become proficient at the herringbone double crochet. But to date, I have yet to find a Content Creator that has recorded the herringbone double crochet stitch that breaks down each yarn over and pull through of the stitch process. What I’m struggling with is after the initial yarn over. I get hung up on the first pull through after the “yarn over” stitch (or in other words, the second step of the stitch). It tends to tighten down on me because it’s not locked into place yet. It slows me down so much fiddling and struggling to dig my hook through that I just give up! I am a advanced crocheter but this seemingly simple stitch has me duped. If you can help, that would be great!

I love puzzle yarns! A 5wt is as high as I will go so it's always my go to. My donations are for the Girls & Boys Ranch so I use a different color for each scarf & hat & try to use a different stitch so they don't all look alike. I wish Walmart had a bigger variety and/or Premier had lower prices. I store them in tubs as well but I have limited space. To keep from having to dig them to make sure I don't duplicate them, I take pictures to refer back to. I know a guy who does the most beautiful embroidery work on his shirts. They are the ones with the special yoke across the back and down the shoulder. He was a carnival ride owner/manager and the work was either carnival related or American Indian related due to his heritage. I think men should be proud of their work regardless of what it pertains to and show it off! Thanks again for sharing more about yourself!

Thank you for answering my question! I actually was enabled by your Herschnerr's $1 yarn deal video to buy about 8,000 yd of Soho tranquil tweed so I'm going to hope it is a decent acrylic yarn for a blanket. 💜 It was $36 which is affordable for a handmade blanket, and yesterday they had the 31 cent flat shipping so it really worked out well. Thank you so much! Also, my 8-year-old daughter is learning to crochet and she is a leftie so it is cool to find both left and right-handed tutorials on the same channel. She's still beginning but being able to go on KZbin and find left-handed crocheters for her to watch has been a huge blessing!

Juan, thanks again for answering most of your many fans questions...I say MOST since it's very obvious that you can't answer EVERY QUESTION (you'd be here for hours if you did) that we have! I am kinda curious about the crochet hooks that you use. I remember you saying that you use Prym hooks because standard crochet hooks are too small for you but I wonder if you have tried any other brands. I'm mostly a Boye hook girl but I have tried Furls and Clover hooks (don't like Susan Bates) . Also do you listen to music while you crochet? If so, what do you like to listen to? Depending on the time of day, I will either play KZbin videos as background sounds while I crochet or I will put my earbuds in and listen to my music to drown out my obnoxious neighbors 😂 keep being a shining beacon in our crochet world and we'll continue to be drawn to you! ❤❤❤

This is a great question! I keep forgetting to mention my hooks in detail. Definitely a video in the near future! I don’t play music while crocheting- I play KZbin vids! Lol!

Hi Juan ! I made a huge yarn haul last night from Joann’s and Lyon Brand. I told myself it’s for my birthday and Christmas present lol It’s hard to resist a really great sale ! Also at Lyon Brand under patterns they have a nice crochet men’s sweater with a lay down collar but you have to buy in a kit. I was looking to make one for an older brother. I did think you might like to take a look. I knew you were looking for a pattern.

As someone who has been crocheting longer than you have been alive, I would make a suggestion that you give some natural fibers a try. I just can't get used to all the acrylic.

JUAN!! I just saw that link to Hershnerrs (?)I can't spell. I am binge watching you today, so I make comments on my phone, as I watch on TV with Roku. Anyway!! I GOT 40 SKEINS OF FANTASTIC YARN, FOR $68!!! I am giving my daughter-in-law most of it, but she never goes to craft stores. Just Walmart. We live in a small town in Tennessee, and I order my yarn. She just buys Red Heart and Mainstay, so she is going to be thrilled!! Thank you for the link! You are great! Too long but, had to tell ya!!

Juan when you do granny’s do you ever start with a rectangle instead of a square. I find it easier to make a twin or double bed blanket. It’s also better for kids because they don’t need the width. I like the way you think about yarn especially the pricing. I’m one of those people that can’t use wool, so the higher priced ones don’t affect me too much. Greetings from Ontario Canada.
