I feel bad for Joanna... She went through so much, Especially from her husband. What a cruel man.

His father was worst, it's not proven that his husband was cruel to her, but what is sure is that his father put her in prison, and let there stay during all her entire life, and his son did the same its proven that his father was the worst one

She stay as a hostage for more tha 50 years, nearly a half century and all because his father wanted to be king, and his son did the same but it was different because he hardly knew his mother, for he she was nothing she didn't love him so he did the same to her, its a cruel story because her husband die very soon at the age of 26 and she loved him so madly

@@nagorepalaciosdelafuente it is more complex than that. She was secluded because she appeared incapable of governing (she might have had depression or anxiety but impossible that they would diagnose and treat her properly back then) and there was great risk of her being influenced by nobles who would have been given privileges and benefits buy her had she been in contact with the outside world. So it was a quite complex situation. Having mental diseases back then was awful, like staying alive but being dead. Fernando was obviously ruthless but he had his reasons, since Juana had given many signs that she was not interested in governing. I am not saying her sorry wasn't sad, she was a pawn. Her husband probably abused her, he was a womaniser and neglected her, not imagining that she would become the heir to the throne. The irony is that she outlived everybody!

It's good to see a production that tries to match Juana's looks. The blonde hair was more strawberry blonde that I'm sure darkened with age, as most blondes do, so that looks to fit. However she had blue eyes just like her sister Katherine of Aragon. Historical records describe that both sisters looked very much alike. BTW is this a film, series, or mini-series, and what is it called? I'd love to watch the whole thing.

She was not mad and the one who loved her was her son. She was too intelligent and outspoken for her time. She was a special character, she knew a lot and what she wanted, but as a woman, she had a hard time to make her voice heard. They saw her as a threat. Especially her father who was even jealous of his own wife. He feared Joana when she would be Queen of Castilia. His own daughter who would succeed her mother Isabel! A woman? No way and certainly not his daughter. HE wanted the crown, or at least control it. Carl realised it and locked her up in Tordesilla but not because she was mad. Because her life was in danger. He kept her safe. He went back to see her, and he never signed any stately document without her signing with him. Her, the Queen of Castilia. They are both misjudged. Thinking of Joana's fate, I totally understand why Elizabeth I never married.

From what I've read about Felipe he, like Henry VIII, was a narcissist. Henry had the added benefit of being supreme sovereign so he did more damage than Felipe. I say this because one of the symptoms of their victims is they become highly unstable and in need of the abuser's approval, so they'll go to extreme lengths to get it. Katherine of Aragon feared that she too would be declared insane and locked up like her sister but luckily she was either less prone to Henry's tactics or he simply didn't get the support to do what Felipe did. The later being more probable because Katherine was beloved by both the populence and the lords.

Women's history is often told by men and it was her father Ferdinand who had her declared mad and locked her up until her death. That characterization is probably not accurate- it's more that she was too in love and too passionate, unbecoming in a woman of this period.
