Hellsing I think the most frustrating thing is when you see obvious bias. Like when comparing two phones, they take time to set up pretty shots from the phone they like, and they just randomly shoot whatever from the phone they don't like.

G2 had it, G3 had it, now what's the logic behind that? "we are going to have a bigger sensor, excellent camera and bla bla but 60fps video has to go" Damn LG!

How about some more in depth audio capture? In the past (G2/G3) I found that at lower levels (ex: late night in the country with crickets and other bugs singing) the gain riding and NR simply ruins the experience. It basically sounds like a hydrophone a few cm below the surface of a pool! Great review covering things that matter with video. The flare around the streetlamp is likely caused by reflections between internal lens elements. It's difficult to control. The S6 has loads of 'em! Try setting up a dozen or so point sources (like a table top of LED candles) in a dark room and shooting the scene. It's eerie indeed!

cpufrost So I've been toying with how to expand on audio. For speech I try and do a vlog with the front facing camera. I'd love to capture some kind of consistent live audio, but I can't count on bands doing the same gig every time I have a camera review to shoot, and I'd likely get hit with copyright strikes if I did. I had to take down an older Lumia review because of that. The freeway test is about the most consistent I've found, but it's really more a test of noise reduction capabilities than anything else.

A couple days ago LG V10 has been announced and as you know despite using simillar lens and sensor as the G4, it supports full manual control in shooting video. It seems that LG camera department is probably following your channel!

Color spectrum sensor is very nice add-on. I like it and I think it is closest to true out off all androids. Works well on auto mode, most of the time. I will miss G3 flash doe but it is ok trade off.

Giulio Digiacomo So the tricky thing about DXO, I really only trust their sensor tests, but a great sensor doesn't always make for a great camera. On previous SOny phones, the lens and sensor are always phenomenal, but the software has been twitchy to use, and results on auto are usually mid-pack to poor. I REALLY want to run the Z5 through a proper review, but I have NO relationship with Sony. They've consistently ignored me, and I refuse to spend my own money on a phone from a company which refuses to support the region I live in.

Cyrille Le guennec tricky. Depends on how quickly you want to pick up your back up. If it's soon-ish, the G4 is really good obviously. If you can hold out longer, like end of summer, I'm really curious to see what the next Lumia will deliver.

Is this warping effect on 3:11, just if you move during capture? Or is the autofocus/software try all the time to stabilize with this effect. I really enjoy the picture quality of the g4 but this warping/distorted effect is not very cool.

Tan Siekmann Correct. The more you move, the harder the lens tries to compensate for your movements. All of my tests are handheld, so you can see, when i'm working at holding still, even with my shaky hands, the effect is WAY more subtle.

JuanBagnell Im not sure if I can deal with this. I usually take pictures, but then the lens "manipulate" the video. I don't like. I mean the iPhone shoot just in HD but the stabilization is at least smooth. So thanks for the answer.

Tan Siekmann Well for photos the LG has a HUGE advantages over the iPhone6. The larger image sensor can soak up more light for better low light photos, and the aperture is wider. That combo is going to produce much nicer pics than what the iPhone can currently achieve. The full time OIS will probably be a benefit too. No one's been able to agree on how the 6+ OIS actually works, but on the LG it's on all the time, and will help with compensating for your hand movement. That extra wobble you see while walking with the phone will be another BIG benefit while shooting stills. I prefer a little OIS wobble and having a much wider field of view, than the digital crop on the iphone where you have to shoot from farther away to get more of your subject in the shot.

Please dedicate more time to the stills and imge quality. I've personally worked with G4 and after comparing G4 photos with other cameras, it seems like lg needs to work on its image processing algorithms, as its samples looks somehow cartoonish in full-size due to over-sharpening and heavy noise reduction. Did you have the same experience?

I have the LG G4 (love it!) and I'm learning how to get out of Auto mode with the pictures, but can someone please help with the video camera? My videos are always grainy/blurry, no matter the lighting. Do you know the best settings (in 4K or 1080p). Thanks :-)

UHD takes up a bit more storage, but gives you a lot more resolution to play with. As for videos being blurry, make sure you're focused properly on your subject. The phone will switch over to auto focus once you start shooting, so you have to refocus after hitting record. It's pretty good autofocus for medium distances, but kinda terrible for macro shots.

Scott All of my camera reviews are hand held. The auto focus can be a bit twitchy, but it locks down whenever you tap the screen and force it to focus on something specific. I don't understand people who just fart around shooting full auto. Aren't you trying to take video of a specific thing most times? Lock that puppy down! The OIS has a much higher range of movement which is where the wobble comes from, but I like the G4 wobble a LOT better than shaky video, or most software stabilization which can look jerky.

Bartosz O I don't know of any Android which doesn't have a 5 minute limit. The Lumia can record until you fill up storage.

Hi. Firstly, thumbs up for your very nice and informative reviews. Now I"d like to comment on something that I've noticed and nobody except dxo seems to see or talk about. The lg g4 from what I've seen on the web has a terrible perspective distortion on the videos probably due to their ios implementation. To better illustrate take a look here kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2i8oKCMhsdnjNE and observe the buildings and how the perspective is always changing, the jello effect. It's obvious in every lg g4 video I've seen to a lesser or greater extend and always there. How can people not notice and not be disturbed by it? On xda someone has even made a script to disable ois on g4. Once you notice it I think it breaks the video deal, at least it did for me. I'd take handheld shakiness any day instead of this. It's like random constant lens tilt/shift. Perhaps if mentioned something can be done via software update. Just my humble opinion.
