I like this black quite a lot. Its got great volumetrics and doesnt feel quite as busy with all the secondary reflections as some of the more chrome nmms look. To be this reads like glossy black paint at scale, rather than a mirror or polished chrome effect. Very nice I also really appreciate that you made a paint plan with 5 paints, but it clearly works with any 3 paints and 50/50 mixes as well, so it could be used for really interesting color shift styles or schemes like Dark Angeos that have a very specific black to green highlight. A great video

This is awesome and makes me feel much more confident in tackling NMM. One thing I would like to see (in another video perhaps?) is how you would then tackle the highlight placement from the back view once your primary viewing angle is finished. It’s probably really simple, but something I struggle with for sure!
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
I'm planning a video on that but it's very simple, I just reverse the light source. So the main source of light for the back would be directly opposite to the one for the front

I can't say anything different from what others have said, but it is a great intro NMM technique. The step-by-step process is great. It's also very timely because I'm planning to paint a new army with black armor. I planned to do a black with blue/gray highlights, so I assume I would follow the same technique but substitute the grays with gray/blue paints.....?

Exactly! Just use blue greys instead of warm greys. Something like Incubi Darkness, Thunderhawk Blue, Fenrisian Grey for example

Very cool techniques! Often i find myself struggling with NMM now only in certain areas where it is not so easy or clear how it should look. Leg, very easy - light goes down the leg, on the knee, on the foot, looks great. Arm, very easy, shoulder very easy. OK now he has big, flat, slightly round chest plate. Hm. Or maybe he has a big intricate moulded eagle on his shoulder. Tiny little fearhers where i just have no room to blend.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Жыл бұрын
The trick for small details is you don't have to blend. As long as the contrast is right, it doesn't matter. In fact, most of the times a rougher transition looks more realistic

As usual just perfect, I'm so inspired after this video to try! Maybe you could extend this series to more colours, like Red, and (sorry for this) Blue, at least showing paints and result, or maybe one or two recipes for gold and steel Though many tutorials often said generic "warm grey" and so on, to not focus on exact paints, as a partially colourblind person who struggle with exact shades, I found knowing exact paints combinations one of the most valuable information to have for the best result, for example your plasma gun video with different color schemes but the same technique was so good. Also thanks for your necron blades video, it was the best tutorial explanation on KZbin on the topic, I'm so proud by my Void Dragon blade and tail

@krgood90083 ай бұрын
To make it look more like black, shrink the highlight areas. You can make it look less glossy by not painting as brightly with the color palate with highlights. That should get you the black effect you’re looking for without making it look like titanium.
