Ian is a bass player’s bassist. Solid low ender with impeccable timing. I read somewhere that he started out in jazz on upright.

lot of bassist started with jazz, teaches a lot of great skills. Like Flea was a jazz trumpeter.

What a great guy! I've been a Judas Preist fan for 44 years and counting. Only in recent years have I seen anything with him talking and just a total down to earth guy. The backbone of that band of such a long time!

Totally underrated bass player. He was a lot busier and bluesier on the older stuff, but as things got more driving and riffy he had no ego about laying back and playing exactly what was needed.

i like how he hangs on the F# forever on "You've got another thing comin'" When he switched notes, it made it sound like an event 😜

Yeah, I've always thought that Ian's use of pedal tones is really the foundation of JPs sound.

The song’s theme is feeling like a badass, and guitars do the whole job. Bass just makes fundation, and them BOOM different notes

I've never heard him play. I think his bass volume knob has been broken for over 50 years.
@TinyTeaKettle Жыл бұрын
Then I'd suggest you buy yourself some proper headphones. Rage, Victim Of Changes, Love Bites (Yeah the Intro is Ian through a Synth pedal), Dreamer Deceiver, Heavy Metal, etc. Sure you won't "notice" it especially during the Painkiller period but just listen to those tracks without bass. Thin as sh*t.

He’s the polar opposite of Steve Harris ,can hardly be heard on their records and extremely simple playing
@ognir664 жыл бұрын
You are completely wrong. He is far tighter and more rock solid than Harris could ever be. Plus he doesnt go E-D-C E-C-D in 95% of his songs. if anything, its Steve Harris who is the simple bassist.
@TheTrooperMB3 жыл бұрын
@Nairam Diam Ian Hill is one of the tightest bass player i've heard , to the point it sounds almost robotic! Steve Harris on the other hand is the opposite in the sense that he is humanizing the bass by playing on the get go with the feels , the simple mistakes makes it's charm and goes well with maiden I would say , more natural feel
@jimobrien91043 жыл бұрын

@@ognir66 I just saw Priest last week and Ian's bass was loud, proud, flawless, and absolutely 💯 % professional. It was amazing and he never missed a single note.

@@ornerycuss5804 Exactly! I read an article where Scott Travis(Priest Drummer) says Ian is the ONLY bassist he's ever worked.with that never makes a mistake. Night after night-SPOT ON.
