Good point! One might also mention that generally the slower the framerate the more likely judder occurs. There are also incompatibilities with 60 or 120 Hertz refresh rate screens. I notice that you are recording at 60 fps, like myself. Before I became frustrated with other framerates. In particular 24, 25 and 50 fps are not suited for panning at all when afterwards watching on a 60 Hertz screen.

Thanks for your simple tips for reducing the chance of judder views in video panning. The RED Panning Speed Calculator is interesting too, as illustrated in Gerald Undone's video.

I usually spend 7-10 seconds when spanning wider scenes - smooth as butter or not enough judder that the eye can see anyway.

Another option is High Frame Rate (HRF) or Slow motion and do a quick pan. That works for me. In playback the pan is slow and no jitter.

my issue is still the same......I am playing 4K video on my pc and same video also on my 4k tv. On my 4k tv the video looks much smoother (eg when turns are made with the video camera), but on my pc these turns look very fast and you almost think you are turning the video recording way to fast. But on my tv the result looks much smoother. Not sure what to do about this for PC? I have a I9 processor, 32gb, 4k monitor, rtx2060 super. Any ideas?
@ThomasYeemailme15 күн бұрын
Judder on a 4K monitor can occur when the frame rate of the video doesn't match the display's refresh rate. This can cause the display to repeat or insert frames, which results in jerky motion.

Idk why nobody talks about the easy alternate method which is convert 30fps video to 60. It can work out by most of us!!

Does not the shutter speed have anything to do with it?
@ThomasYeemailme11 ай бұрын
Yes, if shooting at too high a shutter speed. Most people know to shoot at 1/(2x fps) but if they still have judders, then panning slowly should do the trick. Thanks!

OK... this has always bugged me... Not from video I take personally, but when I buy DVD's rip and encode them so I can have digital backups... I usually use handbrake...I bought a new DVD... and old 80s 480p crime drama... It was interlaced.. So I chose the 480p MKV h.264 preset in handbrake...motion was jerky...So I kept trying different deinterlace settings...that didn't work....then under the video settings there was a choice between constant framerate or peak framerate... It was set on constant... I tried peak framerate and that solved the problem completely... smooth motion during panning side to side or zoom out or in slowly....so it WASN'T the deinterlaced settings... it was the constant or peak framerate... which I have no clue what the difference is..
@ThomasYeemailme Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. The video setting that you referring to, was it on the camera or video player?
@One-Day-After-Another Жыл бұрын
@@ThomasYeemailme Neither really... A DVD... A tv show... I ripped the DVD to the computer... it was interlaced... so I needed to encode it to deinterlace it...I used handbrake (a free program) The tv show had slow panning scenes and they were jerky as I played it back... so I tried different things and finally figured out that, along with deinterlacing, I needed to choose variable framerate instead of constant... and looking at the info of the file after encoding.... it was at 60 FPS....the panning scenes were really smooth.... I know your video really has nothing to do with this... because you're speaking of camera recording....but when I searched, this was the first video that came up.. :)

Why do I get it when people are pacing back and forth on a stable shot?

It could be that your camera's frame rate is set too slow.

@ThomasYeemailme4 ай бұрын
Noted! If you are shooting 24 fps then try shooting in 30 or 60 fps instead, that will be a lot of smoother.
