In 1984, I put a video camera on a small tripod, extended the center post, spread the legs at the bottom and ran down my dorm hallway pretending it was a Steadicam. Fun to see the same concept come back 40 years later!

I have been contemplating selling some gear that's been collecting dust because once upon a time, I listened to ALL the KZbinrs before I had an idea of what I'm doing. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Funny enough, my monopod was first up on the chopping block. I have been immersed in your video for the last two weeks putting your suggestions to the test for my needs. Essentially, you've been my textbook! : ) All that to say, thank you for your work and the inspiration it generated.

Love the innovative approach man. These are the skills all filmmakers need but few have. It’s not the ability to think outside the box that’s important, it’s the ability to realise there is no freakin box.

Also to recognize the limitations of said box and perhaps a bit of imagination... for mild expansion beyond the box. Also, in the age of AI... so many interesting, new possibilities swiftly approaching.

I truly enjoy your concise yet thorough presentations, especially your use of animations. This episode was particularly informative. I found the hero shot the most interesting in how your use of the monopod made this complex movement rather easy. I managed to locate all of the parts you suggested (including a used Manfrotto 234). Thanks for all of your hard work and time.

Great suggestions. It reminds me of when I was in college many years ago. I shot a short film for Cinematography class using a Super 8 camera. I had one shot where I wanted a Steadicam effect as I followed the main character up a long set of stairs and onto a patio. I used my tripod fully collapsed, and held the top of the tripod as I walked. My teacher was impressed with the smoothness of the shot, and I ended up receiving a B+ for my short as a result. At the moment, I have a Benro fluid head and a monopod which I believe will work well together. Thanks for another inspirational video.

@@MJDreams I haven’t yet, no. I’m thinking that it might be a bit too unwieldy for all the moving around we do at a wedding. I have found that using a camera strap and not moving much does a pretty good job, though. This would still be interesting to try… 🤔

Cheers so much every single part fantastic plus invaluable and I naturally started using monopods like this at first and with your expertise techniques I believe I’m closer to making a fabulous video clip and my favourite moves are the last one plus the foreground reveal 👍☺️❤️

Fantastic video. While it was focused on not needing a gimbal it occurred to me that the monopod would be good with a gimbal too. Combined the video is completely smooth and is a cheap substitute for a slider amongst other things.

Absolutely, again I’m not trying to say a monopod can replace a gimbal, I’m just saying that many gimbal movement can be done with other tools, such as monopod in this case. Monopods are super versatile honestly and they’re not given the attention they deserve

Fantastic video explaining all information without coffee drinking clips or dogs in the videos like most have some weird things going and showing lol. Anyways everyone got their style but I truly love how well your videos are showing most important information. Watching hundreds of youtube videos all the time and looking for good piece of information really drains your brains out lol. Subscribed!

I totally and absolutely hear you, I also find those “coffee moments with friends” unnecessary. But that’s me (guess that makes 2 of us), that’s why I never include them in my videos and just go straight to the point. Really happy you enjoyed the format then. Thanks again for your support

Again, excellent tips. For my kind of videos (moving bikes), the stabilization has always been a problem. Unfortunately, the best solution to me are the action cameras, but they are not exactly at the image quality I surch for.
