When a mother would rather do meth than be a mom, then her rights should be terminated. I am so happy that the child will be adopted by a loving family.

She is an addict. It is not about rather. It is she has no will to overcome. Did you listen to how many times she attempted recovery? Plus, her own mother is addicted to meth. I see her sad life ending very early.

@lizetteolsen3218 you are so correct. Nobody should ever lose their children over this or be in jail. This is an illness like any other. Whi wouldn't need to feel better in this pos world we live in. It's so messed up. 😫 this shouldn't happen.

@@SouthernGIGI I am not arguing that sanctions need not be taken against those who have addiction issues. Not at all. CPS is replete with life-altering or ending cases perpetrated by addicted family members on children. Addiction does not mean the addict is not held accountable. My issue with one of the commenters is her lack of understanding about addiction. She was making a case that an addict has a choice about facing parental termination versus continuing substance use. Parental termination is the outcome of unresolved addiction issues. At one point, a caseworker mentioned the mother was depressed KNOWING that she had no real opportunity to be reunified with her daughter b/c of her life choices, and given the time frame. She attempted multiple times to comply, but is regularly unsuccessful. Meth is a scourge that many people only escape with death.

@@SouthernGIGIthe losing her children part isn't a punishment for her. It's for the children. As tragic as it is, the child would certainly follow same path for sure if this woman raised her. Possibly even with just contact. I have empathy for her struggle but i believe the child deserves better and she cannot provide better.

Adoption is not a perfect solution to a parent suffering addiction. A child in such circumstances may suffer trauma from being separated from a parent, no matter how sick they are. It boggles the mind to consider how high the cost of addiction is to our society vs. the paltry treatment methods available.

Some of these moms are just really messed up from a lifetime of f'ed up trauma and that's all they know. It's tragic. But I think a large proportion of these lifestyle addicts might just be lower functioning narcissists (who also 'prey' upon the vulnerable traumatized group). Some of these communities are just plagued with this crap along with general poverty and deprivation. Having a child removed from you and your extended family/intimate social sphere, you most not have any reliable people in your life. But after saying that, I also want to acknowledge the burden of familial guardians of children who'd otherwise be in foster care, that's a blessing for that child as long as it's a home safe from mistreatment and that offers sufficient support in the child's holistic well-being. That's an enormous sacrifice for a lot of people who did not anticipate raising their grandkids or nieces/nephews, even younger sibling (where older sibling had prior primary caregiver experience in the home and are now adults, things went to hell when they tried to have their own lives during burgeoning adulthood)? younger siblings in childhood I'm not making excuses, new mothers and babies are prioritized in the drug treatment and social services community, ESPECIALLY pregnant women. If you make an effort during your pregnant (the sooner you act after confirming the pregnancy, THE BETTER). Seek help and resources, show genuine effort while you're still pregnant. There's external moral and ethical (maybe even legal) obligations that these services have for the sake of the unborn child. Unfortunately some places just lack the necessary resources to serve the overwhelming need. The drug addiction epidemic really is a largely silent crisis until the levees break or a preventable tragedy involving children with cps oversight.
@trickortrump3292
@trickortrump3292 Жыл бұрын
You bring up so many things that a lot of people don’t consider. I would say that if you have a child removed from you, you probably come from a dysfunctional family at some level. I look at how much cps has been involved with my family and I can see exactly how the family as a whole contributed to the problems in the individual homes. Like most of my cousins have been in foster care at some point. I’m the oldest of 11 grandchildren so I was in my 30s when the youngest needed a home so he came to live with my husband and me for 3 years. My grandparents did not provide a stable home for my mom and aunts and uncles growing up and they all turned out to be horrible parents themselves. The only reason we weren’t taken from my mom was because cps never got called about us and the family of enablers did absolutely nothing to intervene when they knew our daily lives were utter hell. Dysfunction is almost like a virus in families and it takes a concerted effort and a boatload of critical thinking to learn how to be sane among the madness.

@@lizetteolsen3218 well, it's kinda hard to live a straight life if you come from an unstable 'delinquent' family background. That's all I'll say. It's not impossible to overcome your circumstances if you try hard enough, but some folks are just too traumatized from awful to downright horrific childhoods to get their 💩 together. It's just the reality of it.

@@trickortrump3292 that's really unfortunate for your family, truly. I hope you're doing significantly better (as an adult, I assume). You seem to understand the generational cycle of deprivation and self destructive escapism.

@@helenhoward5346 Your response is very judgmental. Not sure what the word 'delinquent' means. Your initial response makes it sound like she has an equitable choice--being a mom or being an addict. It is not even remotely equivalent.

I don't understand this. I was an addict and when I started having kids, I stopped behaving like one so I could raise good ones. Addiction is hard but only because the person themselves have to want to change and be willing to do anything to accomplish that.

Completely off topic… I love watching Amy Taylor’s facial expressions, especially when she is really concentrating. The expression on her face most of the time, looks as though she is a deer in headlights! Granted, a lot of these cases are shocking and concerning but I’ve noticed that that expression is just her typical expression when concentrating. Also, Stacey Zavala reminds me of the actor who plays/played the ADA in Law and order: SVU. I forget her screen name and real name.

I think the mom needs some credit for relinquishing her rights. Too many parents are selfish and would rather keep their child in an unhealthy environment or even kill their baby upon birth. This is why the judge said, she’s always willing to relinquish rights if that’s what the parents want”.

Relinquishment also means the parents have very minimal rights to appeal the termination according to the Texas family code. Relinquishment by both parents in this case means cps would be out of the case immediately with the foster parents being named as the permanent conservators. The adoption would be then be done through the family court system.
@StarryNightsAreForDreams

However, in the end as far as we know, she didn’t relinquish her rights. Perhaps her failure to complete services could count somewhat, but I believe that her constant excuses were her way of relinquishing her rights without signing the paperwork to relinquish them. In her mind it probably helps her sleep at night to have not signed; but IMO signing would have been giving a blessing on her daughter to have a wonderful life. This way, she can tell herself they didn’t help her properly, the department didn’t explain what they needed from her, they didn’t give her enough chances, and excuse after excuse after excuse, which she likely will believe. 😢

Why couldn't that worker meet the mom at 10:45pm? He would have been able to take half a day off later this week. Meet with her, and she signs the papers. Many other people work shift work...cops, nurses, doctors...all to serve the people.
