My truck broke down across the street from some house once. The woman inside the house came out and yelled at me for half an hour to move my car, called me a criminal and accused me of trying to break into her house and then she called the cops on me. Some people are just unhinged sociopaths.

Someone broke down with a flat and pulled into my driveway. It was dark and drizzling outside. I got my jack and tools out and helped them put the spare on quicker. It was a local pizza delivery guy. I got a flat on a holiday weekend and it was a Sunday and I was hours from home. It was a tight back road and I rolled into a driveway. The guy whose driveway I pulled into helped and got his fire chief buddy to leave a cookout to come help out as well. Not everyone shoots people or goes crazy on you for pulling into a driveway.

I can remember getting lost one day driving through a rural area as a teenager. I turned down a long dirt driveway hoping there would be an area I could turn around at. There wasn't and I pulled up to a house and thought, "oh no, I don't want to be here." A few seconds later an angry dude came storming out of his house asking me what I was doing there. You know what he did next? It wasn't pulling out a gun and immediately opening fire. He showed me a place to turn around and guided me out. The defendant clearly was looking for an excuse to shoot somebody. This also shows how sick our society has become.

Hopefully it's a rare occurrence. I've been worried about using someone's driveway to turn around. I travel a lot of county roads. They're the two lane, no shoulder kind, with a 50 mph speed limit. You can either risk a collision, or risk getting shot. I think it's very rare that someone in America would shoot someone like that guy did. Other than Arizona. I think they just passed a law that says it's okay to murder trespassers if you think they're illegal immigrants (so, all brown people? Even though there are Bulgarian and Ukrainian immigrants crossing illegally too). Personally, I was turning around on a rural road and pulled up towards a guys house. The owner came out and said hi. Then, I saw a brick memorial he had built for his son (who had died in high school). It stuck with me because I was so afraid he'd call the cops or shoot me... But, his son had died, and he wasn't mad at the world for it. There wasn't anything I could do to help that father.

About a year ago, there was a minor accident in front of my house. The road is moderately busy and school was letting out of the high school about a half mile down the road. So, to avoid impeding traffic, the cars pulled into my longish, two-car-wide driveway to exchange information and such. I came out of my house to make sure they didn't need anything. They see me and started saying, "I'm so sorry, we'll leave!" I was like, "I'm just making sure no one is hurt. You're fine!" Seeing that one of the cars had a kindergarten-ish-aged passenger that the mother was trying to keep occupied during the long process, I brought out my kids and some sidewalk chalk to play with her. The people acted like I was uncommonly nice and I didn't get it. Apparently, not everyone does that kind of stuff...

Far worse, he destroyed all of Kaylin’s hopes and dreams, with those of all who know and love her. A lot of people talking about how this man must be afraid of his own shadow... I disagree. This man doesn't have the emotional capacity to feel fear. I've known people like this. He's lived his whole life wishing he could have the experience of killing someone, but knowing he'd never get away with it. He thought he saw his chance to have that experience and get away with it, so he took it. Simple as that. He wasn't acting out of fear for his life, he was acting out of premeditated malice presented with an unexpected opportunity to express itself.

Someone who has spent hours each day watching conservative media convince them that "they" are coming for them. "They", the faceless hoard of people who hate Christmas trees and straight marriage. These people have had Fox and Newsmax tell them that things are falling apart, that Joe Biden is giving the country away to China, and the only way you are going to survive is to stay armed and shoot at the first thing that moves on your property. The old voters on the right are victims of 8 years of propaganda starting heavily in 2016, which villainized everyone that wasn't one of them. This guy is a victim of that propaganda, though I can't seem to find any sympathy for him.

“I was raised in a little town of which most of you have never heard. But in the West it is a famous place. It is called Abilene, Kansas. We had as our marshal for a long time a man named Wild Bill Hickok. Now that town had a code, and I was raised as a boy to prize that code. “It was: meet anyone face to face with whom you disagree. You could not sneak up on him from behind, or do any damage to him, without suffering the penalty of an outraged citizenry. If you met him face to face and took the same risks he did, you could get away with almost anything, as long as the bullet was in the front.” Dwight Eisenhower, November 23, 1953 Shooting a retreating, unarmed young woman in the back is not a great American value from a bygone era. I believe the word for him would have been yellow-bellied. And I’m sure Marshall Hickok would have dealt with this fellow appropriately.

It's very simple how someone can act like that. I'm not stating anything about this case but just an example. Say you have someone who has been overseas, fighting for our country. The guy has multiple deployments under his belt and recieved a debriefing about how the enemy put a bounty on his head. Then look at our open borders and all the cyber attacks to get personal information. The paranoia that guy must face must be great. Hopefully the guy remembers to get positive identification before administering lethal force. The guy in this case shot at a vehicle leaving his property and has been convicted accordingly. But I'll ask this question. If the guy had a sign that said no trespassing and violators will be shot. Would he have been justified?

The media portrayed that story as if the White guys simply found a Black guy, chased after him and shot him in the back. I was shocked until I saw a podcast that actually showed the video. The so called victim was leaving a house that was still being constructed and had been burglarized before. After they saw the man leave the house they followed him and demanded, at gun point, he wait for the police. Although, this is not something I would have done, I was surprised to see what had unfolded. As the White guys were trying to get him to wait for the police, the Black guy walks towards the man with the rifle and begins to punch him in the face while trying to take his gun. It was only then that he was shot. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have been punished but I certainly would not have found them guilty of murder if I were on the jury.

He had the option of firing his warning shot up into the air. He had the option of talking to them to determine their intent. He had the option to consider whether there was any group of people who knew him who would feel it necessary to attack him as a gang. He did none of these things

Warning shots are illegal in nearly every state. I think some states don’t have the law directly but generally speaking a warning shot of any kind is illegal.

Warning shots are stupid, even if you fire into the ground and "know" there is zero risk of rickashay or fragmentations. For one, every round counts in a fight, so you don't want to waste them. Two, the gunshot will deafen you and those around you, making it harder for everyone (but especially you) to read the situation. Three, like shoving a person, it tends to escalate the situation rather than de-escalate it. Four, it makes you look like the unhinged one and them more justified in attacking you. You should only fire when you are actually protecting your life.
@PWingert1966
@PWingert1966 8 ай бұрын
@@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- Actually, they have a deterrent value and can prevent unnecessary escalation especially when the nature of the interaction is unclear. In this case, it is not clear whether the people approaching were intent on a lethal confrontation or whether they were just lost. It tells the other party that you are in a defensive stance and prepared to escalate if it becomes clear that they intend to commit to an attack. It's better than shooting first to kill and spend twenty-five years in jail later!

@@-.._.-_...-_.._-..__..._.-.-.- Still, the decision alludes to the fact you must make reasonable efforts to determine intent and to deter an attack after those efforts have clarified that you are under a life-threatening attack. The judgement makes it clear that this person failed to make reasonable efforts to determine the intent of the persons entering his property and instead decided to shoot first and think that just because they were on his property he had the unassailable right to exercise lethal force without determine intent and threat or risk level to property and personal safety and as part of that assessment deter further attack in a non-lethal way. Now I am speaking from a Canadian perspective where the standard is clarified by recent cases suggesting that You call the police first, you must go to your gun safe unlock it, remove your weapon, remove your ammunition from a separate locked safe and then load the weapon and finally go to your door and determine threat level. You are not allowed by law to keep a loaded weapon at your side. All weapons are expected to be kept in their safe, always unloaded.
