@@TheNoticer83 no actually I didn't know at the time he was terribly abusive. I was saying that she didn't understand that an asset has value. He actually died alone and pretty much in total loneliness. His brother got what was left of his estate after the courts and government got done with it. I didn't know how abusive he was until after she left him. She moved under cover of darkness across the country to get away from him. My three other sisters knew he was a prick but my sister never told me and told my sisters not to tell me. I was the oldest and the big brother. Without my sister actually running the car lot and being the people person that her now deceased cancer ridden ex-husband wouldn't have had nothing. I have no problem with equal partners getting their share. He revelled in the fact that she just walked away and he got to keep everything. Yet what did he have? Some money and no one to spend it with and no physical body to use to enjoy it. In the end he got what he deserved. A lonely death and his estranged brother got the leftovers. He didn't pay taxes on the money he had made after my sister left probably because of selfish greed and the government took almost all of it. They even came after my sister but eventually she became to the IRS an injured spouse. You can look that up yourself. So in the end yes I did help her in the end get what she should have had all along. A peaceful life that she's living now. She doesn't have any money but she doesn't have her old life of abuse.

In Sweden, we have a cap on the amount of child support that's being paid. This removes all this debacle on (a) one party trying to prove that the other earns more, and (b) parents trying to avoid increased salaries or incomes in order to avoid paying more child support. Also, we don't have alimony. These laws are better to avoid gold diggers' attempts to do family scams.

@@elonever.2.071 im glad i live in australia, here we have a gov agency that determines child support not the courts. CSA or child support agency gets your tax return from the aus tax office. they have a formulea that they input based on percentage of child each parent has, and their earnings then they compute it and send each parent out a letter stating how much is needed to be paid by each parent. i paid child support for 15 years and not once did i feel ripped off as the agency is funded by the gov so they don't take any money from the parents. the agency is automatically involved in any divorce case that goes through court with children involved. you can also chose to pay privately ie i pay the mother directly, or via the CSA. if I stopped paying the CSA has the power to go straight to my employer to have my wages garnished. and non payment isn't grounds for jail time either. they just garnish any money you earn, even if its gov support.
