The other 94% of folks were not eligible for this pick--because of their race and/or gender. Your daughter's dreams are hopefully the same as Dr. MLK Jrs' DREAM....to be judged by the content of character, not by the color of her skin. Unfortunately, picking Judge Brown Jackson as Biden did, specifically because she is a black female falls short of King's DREAM. It is a disservice to Judge Jackson---and to others who could not be considered, and to America--and that ideal outlined by King so beautifully. The Judge is very accomplished--but hopefully she does better at following sentencing guidelines going forward, and does not apologize to criminals who commit crimes against children for their sentence that is shorter than guidlines. I remember growing up in the 1960's and watching Civil Rights Protestors being beaten and attacked by dogs and heard about some Civil Rights Activists being murdered. So when Judge Jackson quoted Dr. Maya Angelou about being "the dream and hope of the slave," I think about Sandra Bland. I think about George Floyd, Freddie Gray. Breonna Taylor. Eric Garner. Walter Scott. Ahmaud Arbery. And Walter Scott. This is an emotional and momentous moment indeed. For indeed, there is so much work left to do in this country regarding race relations and racial equality. We simply desire equal treatment! My heart bleeds when I think of Sandra Bland or George Floyd. My heart yet rejoices when I see Judge- soon to be Assoc. Justice- Jackson, because she knows the pain that we as African Americans bear in this country and some of the abandoned neighborhoods that we come from, where in the eyes of the law we are often treated like second-class citizens.
