In this episode, I talk to Naomi Klein, a professor, author, social activist, and filmmaker known for her criticism of the climate crisis, uber-capitalism and war, and for books like the Shock Doctrine, No Logo and most recently, Doppelganger. Naomi has also been an outspoken critic of the ongoing war in Gaza.
We discuss the intersecting crises of oligarchy, militarism and climate change, how the left can best combat right-wing extremism, and how a Donald Trump presidency would be a disaster for Palestinians. www.dropbox.co...

As a Hispanic female, growing up with single parent who only had 8th grade education limited my knowledge of thinking and engagement in critical thinking. I attended graduate school and was introduced to the Shock Doctrine by an incredible female Professor, I encouraged my kids to read the book as it open my eyes to a whole different world. Thank you Naomi Klein for staying strong and recognizing genocide, and how it relates to a shock doctrine. Thank you for sharing, and support for ones autonomy and morally what will be right when it come times to vote.

As Hispanic male who also grew up poor with a single mother, I became more aware of working class thinking through Bernie’s 2016 campaign. I was finishing my bachelor’s in 2015 when he started running and hadn’t learned what Bernie talked about. Have dug so deep into working class thinking ever since and want my fellow Latinos to understand it as well.

@@namenamename635 ultimately I don't think it matters much what you call it as long as you support a two state solution, acknowledge the harm Israel has cause, and advocate for putting pressure on Israel to enact a ceasefire. However, I do believe it's important to use words carefully and correctly, and as a Jew I do not use the word genocide lightly. I'd be interested in seeing what specifically about the label you disagree with. For reference, my beliefs line up with the KZbin channel Some More News and their recent video on the topic, and I also believe it's a genocide based on the comments of many Israeli officials from the bottom up

So absurd that four years ago people were afraid of Bernie’s age. Four years later he’s still as sharp and vital as ever. Biden has been a very good President at a very difficult time but it still hurts to think of what could’ve been under a President Sanders administration.

Bernie would have saved thousands of American lives during Covid-19 because he would have shut down in March 2020 whereas Trump refused to shut down because he did not want to lose profits at his hotels and resorts. Finally Trump shut us down in June 2020 but by then the virus had spread like wildfire {3 additional months}. Trump in his very first year shut down Obama's Pandemic Emergency program {Trump was still sore from Obama's roast}, Bernie would not have done that. In my opinion Trump is a murderer for that.

Biden has been a good president ???? He provides the weapons for Israel with no conditions. He flies in 300,000 illegal immigrants to avoid customs and won't contor the border. He creates a trade war on China, our biggest importer. He provides no help to Palistine, Flint, or Lahaina. He backs an unwinnable war in Ukraine that will wipe out the Ukrainian society. he pushes Russia to consider nuclear war, . He blew up the Nordstream to be a major supplier of European LNG and make a fortune while driving the EU into economic depression. Biden lies about the US economy non stop. The only way Biden thinks he can win again is to use law fare to get Trump, this is totally fascist. Anyone would be a better president than Biden, the janitor at your kids school for example.

AS a 66-year-old, I am moved and concur wholeheartedly with them about my admiration, hope, and solidarity with these young people. It has been so disappointing that my generation and those older cannot understand that they understand what's at stake not only for this country but the world if we can't change the current trajectory we're on. And they're willing, unlike the older folks, to sacrifice and do what's necessary, to stand in solidarity not only with their immediate peers, but with, in essence, the whole human race. I used to love seeing Bernie on the campaign trail when he would ask people in the crowd to turn to the person standing next to them, and whether they knew them or not, say that they care about them as much as they care about themselves. If we manage to pull Biden out of his own mistakes and defeat Trump, it will largely be because people like these folks took the time to get out and encourage and support and stand with this young generation, as we all should!

My fam member is a conservative Christian. She shares fear mongering videos that say now that Taylor swift endorsed Kamala that she is a witch and they dissect her lyrics as satanic, she also shared reels about immigrants taking over a town in Colorado with guns. The father of my kids keeps was an apprentice fan. Now with the whole eating dogs he doesn’t see him as credible anymore but before that he sent me a video from TikTok that claimed that immigrants were hijacking buses full of children. He sent it to me because he’s in San Diego saying we need to be careful with the kids. Upon further research via the LA Times I read that there was no attempted hijack. The sheriff stated that there was never a forced entry into the bus. That it may have just been a bus mistaken as the buses that help migrants. When I read the TikTok comments on the maga site people were up in arms talking about violence against migrants, it’s the fear mongering tactics of the far right that they enact right before the elections. Just like the image in 2016 of the caravans of migrants supposedly coming to inundate our country, I am beyond words at how gullible our constituents are. It is seriously scary because it’s a cult cultivated via social media mediums

Very constructive dialog. Bernie please bring more intellectual women like her in your podcast. They are amazing and have many many solutions for US domestic problems. Put women in power and there will be no homeless in US.

Thank you, please stay passionate about speaking up.... yes we need global connections for human solidarity instead of the global networks based on the global brands, moneyloggers and property developers operating on shock doctrines. There still are those who haven't given up on their ideals.

My 27 year old son -and his friends, are huge fans of Bernie and the Progressive movement.. I am putting my faith in them for our future. Thank you for your efforts and fighting for the future of our country! I have also given him the message that they must keep Trump out of power so they can even have the future they want and deserve!! BTW-I’m a Bernie fan too-wish you were running for president!😊

Free education, health care, 27 dollars an hour minimum wage for all Americans, and some decent public transportation and housing as well. No genocide. Come on let's make these commonsense changes that could happen any moment, LETS MAKE THESE CHANGES NOW. Thanks for the discussion!

@@MeederTom it works just like any other group insurance plan or government funded entity. And, before you say you don't want to pay for someone else's medical bills or housing, you already are. A healthy person is less likely to be unemployed. A housed person is less likely to be ill or unemployed. An educated person is less likely to be manipulated. Taking care of each other is taking care of ourselves.

Hemp and bamboo are a few excellect natural and easy carbon capture tools at our disposal, as part of an overall solution to carbon emmissions. Coupled with a reduction in fossil fuel use and development of other tools and technologies. This is an important idea that is so easy to implement. We basically need to plant hemp and bamboo all over the world, in every field, garden, and patch of land. Hemp has 1001 uses, it can be used to make paper, clothing, hempcrete (as opposed to concrete a major source of emissions), the seeds are very nutritious with minerals and omega 3, etc. If anyone has any way to push this idea forward, worldwide, we may stand a chance against climate change.
