The judge violated Trump's 6th Amendment rights in this move. He cannot strike a defense witness testimony (or even threaten to do so) to punish him as it punishes the defendant. He can hold a witness in contempt, but that is all he can do. And this press-less 1st Amendment violation by the judge stinks of the odor of mendacity. He has now intimidated wrongly and unlawfully with an idle threat the defenses material witness, which he has a right to be heard as it counters and "confronts" his accusers as if guaranteed in the 6th Amendment. A judge cannot circumvent that no matter how bad his feelings are hurt.

Imagine a judge threatening to strike a key witness's entire testimony simply because he felt he wasn't given sufficient deference. That in itself is grounds for a claim of judicial misconduct and a mistrial. He's basically threatening to punish the defendant for supposed misbehaviour by the witness.
