Many if not most judges palaver with sovcits because they consider they have to make a record that will stand up on appeal. It is gradually becoming clear that the appeals courts, uniformly, have declared the sovcit contentions to be frivolous and without merit. This judge has taken note of that and understands that "frivolous and without merit" means she can summarily dismiss the contentions without hearing them in extenso. All other judges in all jurisdictions should do the same. both for the sake of judicial economy, to discourage sovcits, and to cut into the revenues of the "gurus" who peddle the garbage.

According to someone who is (apparently) a lawyer posting above, the most likely reason why so many judges are listening to the stupid arguments is to make sure their decisions survive the appeal process. But if appellate courts make it clear that the sovcit arguments are frivolous/without merit lower level court judges can simply deny the argument immediately and it will speed things up. I think all the sovcit nonsense got real traction in the early 2010s as more folks got access to the sovcit info and started trying to use it. Now appellate courts are finally starting to catch up. Like all things judicial.. it seems like these types of things take a decade or more before the appellate court understands enough to make these types of administrative decisions.

At least he didn't claim not to be a citizen of the USA, like so many do. Judges should be ready for that one, and if it occurs they should advise the defendants that, if they persevere with that crap, the Feds would be called to take them away to a detention center to await deportation, along with other aliens who also have no visa. However, as they would be unable to name a country where they are a citizen, they would be declared stateless, and be unable to be released. I truly wish "these people" understood that the term "Sovereign Citizen " in itself is an Oxymoron. One CANNOT be a "Sovereign" while at the exact same time claim to be a Citizen. It's either one or the other folks. 🤦🏻🥴🤡
@ARetiredPirate10 ай бұрын
They are good at that, picking the things they like or benefit from..
@willer339910 ай бұрын
It is an oxymoron with no context applied to it. It is an exact description of what they are, which is a citizen with the mistaken belief that they are a sovereign being. It is also the name the founders of the SovCit movement picked for themselves.
@gummo387310 ай бұрын
@@willer3399 lol my point clearly escapes the both of you. It's very easy to cast judgement upon people and call them names. Pretty much everyone does it these days. KZbin comments sections are chalked full of over-opinionated, under-educated folks who believe their own "point of view" is the "correct" one even though they've never lifted a finger to explore the opposite perspective or point of view from a truly neutral, unbiased stance. Both sides of an "issue" hurl the same names and insults at/about each other just like children on an elementary school playground and nothing of any meaning or merit gets accomplished while doing so. It's cute and kind of hilarious when children do it, when adults do it, eh, not so much. That's just sad, hypocritical and is pretty much the main reason why our society is beginning to resemble the comedy central movie Idiocracy these days. The days of true critical thinking have gone the way of the dinosaurs. In reality, neither side of "this argument" (or more like lack thereof) has a clue WTF any of you are talking about, it's basically the equivalent of proverbial gangland Warfare. People pick a "side" based upon their own conformation biases and life experiences, and then hurl insults back and forth at each other like caged monkeys in a circus flinging their own excrement at each other out of pure boredom simply for something to do. How freaking sad is that. Personally I have more faith in the common man/woman and humanity than that. Maybe instead of allowing my words to trigger you and taking them personally, actually try to consider the point about the "bigger picture" im trying to make here. I believe in you. Just try it. You might be amazed at the doors it can open for you. ⚖️
@davidwilliams540710 ай бұрын
The term "sovereign citizen," as used today, is not an oxymoron; it's an idiom. An idiom is a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words. The term was originally coined by SovCits to describe themselves. They only stopped using it about a decade ago when it developed unsavory connotations. It may well have been an oxymoron at the time SovCits were using it. I have no opinion on that. However, the term, as used today by mainstream society, is intended to be taken as a whole, not with the words separated and analyzed individually. That is the essence of an idiom. It is a label that we've applied to people with the SovCit belief system, and it is almost universally accepted for that purpose. Incidentally, I have studied SovCit claims extensively. I've thoroughly investigated every single SovCit claim I've been able to find over the years. I'm an attorney with 35 years of litigation experience, a retired prosecutor, and a pro-tem judge who teaches continuing legal education classes on SovCits to judges and prosecutors. While there is good reason to have faith in the common man/woman (it's why we use juries), there is absolutely no validity whatsoever to the SovCit world view.
