They can petition the court to be released from a case but it seems more often the petition is denied, so they don’t have much choice. They usually need a really good reason for the choice. Private attorneys do have choice in what cases they will take, but regardless of whether they’re public or private, defense attorneys are never to be shamed merely for taking a difficult or even disgusting case. There’s nothing unethical or shameful about defending this type of criminal. If we stop giving the worst defendants the right to effective counsel then there’s no difference in our justice system and the Inquisition of the Middle Ages. If you don’t understand why, do a little light research about the history of English Common Law. It’s not complicated and won’t take you long, but it is too detailed to cover in a forum post like this.

Those public defense lawyers: they always say "my client is indicating that"...because they don't have a clue of the case - only the basic knowledge. *And* the PD's never see their clients in "their office 🏢", no they talk to the clients 15 min before the hearing in the holding cell / the corridor...🤣🤣 I saw a case with Judge Simpson where a person was locked up a person by mistake (illegally of course) by the prosecution, which is strange they should keep track, but *even more strange* was that the public pretender didn't even knew this or did something about it 😃 calling the prosecutor's office 🏢 😃 is that too much to ask? 🤣🤣
