Shelly!!! I love your channel so much, this was such a fun surprise to spot in my subscription box!! Thank you so much for making this, and for sharing your reviews. PS I totally understand your review of After Sappho, I think when I read it I was really craving something wispy and whimsical with no plot, just having fun with language, which is why I ended up really loving it. I wonder if I’d read it at a different time if it would’ve landed so well with me!!

Jack!!!!! I’m having a little fangirl moment because never in a million years did I think you’d see my video. The joke was on me - we share more similar opinions on books than I had anticipated. I respect your After Sappho review even if it was a bit too feather-y for me.

Oh Shelly 😂 This was like watching one of those videos of kittens that are like “100% attack, 0% damage” because they’re just waving their little paws and hurting absolutely no one! I’m glad you got to have a bookish conversation and I hope it lifted your mood! It certainly lifted mine! 😊 And yes, I think he says profound quite a bit too 😂

I loved his moving/setup videos! I've never watched any of his reviews as he seems to like literary fiction mostly, but watching him rearrange his books is fun!

Love his home library series.

I really loved what you did. It just shows that not every book can have the same impact or resonance with people. I just subscribed to hear more about your book choices.

I loved a video of his where he made his library of books to display as a bookstore. He is very entertaining.

I just finished "Small things like these" by Claire Keegan and it was absolutely stunning! Still didn't start Bee Sting. I'm reading "When women were dragons" Have you read that one? Great video. Loved it! :D

I haven’t read Small Things Like These, but I’ll add it to my list.

That old video of Jack… I just want to ask… what was with that hair?! (*I’m just envious of guys like Jack and Steve Donoghue who have perfect hairlines.)

I feel like Jack is a publisher's marketing puppet. Harsh? But I'm super skeptical about booktubers who are given books, or merchandise, or invited to book events being unbiased in their reviews.
@kdonaldson73082 ай бұрын
I would normally agree but I have taken a huge amount of recommendations from him and loved them, so for me personally it doesn’t really matter, I want to read great books and his recommendations often do that for me.

I feel like anyone who becomes popular doing anything gets accused of the same by a section of society who simultaneously claims to want people to grow and succeed but also resents them for it by accusing them of lack of authenticity. I follow several Booktubers and a lot of them receive books from publishers but when they don't like the books, they simply say it out loud. Jack has also done that several times. What people forget is that he does often receive books of authors he has already loved or is interested in picking which is why he often ends up liking them. But then it's widely popular to dismiss the authenticity and dedication of people who've achieved a standing in their career.

Great video Shelly. Unfortunately, I don't find Jack very serious. Lots of charm and energy can get you subscribers, but content seems to be lacking. I saw a video he made in Dubrovnik and kept asking what is the purpose. I will give it to him that he is a smart entrepreneur.

I can see your point of view. Jack is definitely a marketing and content creating genius. For sure. Thanks for sharing!!

I love jacks channel and you Channel too. I’ve read and loved Foster and In Memorium. I’ve also read The Bee Sting and didn’t like it at all. I found it too slow and boring. But it’s one of those books that I should have known I wouldn’t like but a lot of people on you tube loved it
