Banshees should have gotten best original screenplay and best original score in my opinion, Even though Colin Farrell is my favorite actor I knew the oscars were gonna go for Fraisers sob story so I wasnt expecting a best actor win. The story though is the most effortlessly ive seen a film create a symbolic story while still having you be invested in the emotional struggle of the characters in a while. The soundtrack was haunting, beautiful and highly memorable. The track 'Mystery of Inisherin' is probably my favorite

Your respect for "Babylon" may just get me to watch it. Definitely, Blanchett should have won for "Tar". But as Michelle Yeoh was highly respected, as was Jamie Lee Curtis, and since Blanchett had already won two Oscars (as Yeoh pointed out), it was time to honor those with long careers, but no Oscars. The question of why an actor/actress shouldn't win more than once seems irrelevant. After all, both Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole never won Oscars. Although between them, they were nominated 15 times.

I think it's fucking bullshit every single time the academy decides to snub some of the finest performances of the year, for an award to boohoo actor over here that didn't get it a looooong time ago. some of the most finest directors and actors never even got their award for an performance, but go it from an honorary one. and with that, is real class. compared to that fucking bullshit.

It's refreshing whenever a "genre" film is nominated for or somehow wins Best Picture. The Academy and many film critics and self-professed film snobs are pretentious as fuck when it comes to genre, often screwing their noses up at the thought that a genre film could be as good as some generic drama that nobody has ever heard of.

In my opinion, actors in biopics shouldn't win awards; more than half of the work is done by the person being portrayed. Too many actors have been winning awards for their roles in biopics lately.

I guess it's time for me to disagree about the All Quiet score *cracks knuckles* I thought the score was just ok until I got hit in the face by the synthesized 3-note motif, which doesn't enter the picture until they arrive at the front if I remember correctly. My first thought when I heard that motif was disappointment; it sounded too 'synthy' and doesn't belong in the year 1917, and I was expecting something more orchestral and natural. However that's a perfect fit to bring us into Paul's headspace: the front is nothing like what he expected, it's ominous, and all-encompassing. I'll also say this: no other score had me stop in my tracks weeks after viewing as this one did. It left quite the impression.

All Quiet On The Western Front should've been nominated for best director. He would've given the Daniels a run for their money. There wasn't a single uninteresting shot in the entire movies, from the opening with the fox hole to the very end.

The movie was weak. And it's hard for me to like the actor, because...Elvis. The real Elvis is on film too much for me to use as comparison, too often I feel this is an impression.

For me, the score for BABYLON (apart from the occasional Morricone-esque piano arrangement, which was awesome) simply doesn't cut it against the superior and truly against type score for WESTERN FRONT. But to each his own. keep up the great work, I love your videos.

Yes I agree with you that Michelle Yeoh did show acting range. He needs to watch it again. The danger of commenting on Oscar's fresh after they are chosen is that you don't get a chance to rewatch the movies and digest the choices. But fair enough. Personally I am a huge Cate Blanchet fan and close to a year before she won for BLUE JASMINE, I did review it on KZbin and claimed hands down she will be nominated and WIN! In TAR on first viewing I found her performance too mannered. It lacked soul BUT I will need to see it again. Definitely need to see it again.

Tar was a terrible film, filled with every cliche imaginable and overladen with meaningless references. Cate Blanchet phoned in a performance identical to the one she gave in Blue Jasmin and her demise was ridiculous and completely unimaginative.

Your opinion on Michelle Yeoh is stupid and gross. Are you kidding me? Michelle had no range and was not extraordinary? Michelle Yeoh won for having THE best performance in the category. She went above and beyond the script and won based on MERIT not career. How can you say that out of the four winners hers was the career win when the movie rested on HER shoulders and was re-written for her! WOC will never win based on merit to some people. Michelle made us laugh and cry at the same time with just a look. What a garbage review.

Everything Everywhere was a ridiculous, silly, over produced and overly woke pile of garbage. I love that Short Round won an Oscar and has made a heroic acting comeback, but that movie must have bribed someone or the filmmakers slept with the judging panel. It is worse than a cow patty cheeseburger.
