Yeah but the first 7 yakuza games were more about one person's struggles as a part of the yakuza life and the pointless effort to leave that life behind since it always finds you and drags you back in. RNG did a very impressive job creating the new model for Hamura, especially not being a scanned face. The speed in which new dialogue was recorded and the model was created and placed is awe inspiring. Especially as none on the team wanted Taki replaced in any way.

Spoiler warning While Hamura here shows clear malicious intent and the music tone is the same, making the audience think Hamura is a true villain, Kuroiwa shows a calm and collected face and the music beat changes to happy and upbeat. It's quite genius of the devs to do that, since it hides how much of a monster Kuroiwa really is

One thing that gets to me is that Ayabe and Genda are the only two not turning to dust in this opening. What does it meant to symbolize? If you finished the game, you know its clearly not death. Its not about Yagami's past aince Genda is an important character in that regard. Maybe its "hiding secrets" because Genda dosent hide anything from Yagami, and Ayabe is very truthfull at least to us in the game. But still, no idea. Thoughts?

Genda blows out the smoke - just like he talks out his thoughts and guilt. He does not hold back. Ayabe neither, he's a surprisingly honest guy and also it just didn't fit with the direction if he would dissolve because the camera angle, his behavior and the switch to Kuroiwa bears significance. Every other character has some repressed emotion and guilt that they carry within them and maybe that is why they fall apart. It's also important I think that each character dissolves after showing something of themselves: Kaito is hostile to the camera (he was expelled and he has his yakuza past only, hence he'd struggle with rootlessnes, would not be for Yagami) while Mafuyu is open and kind (her attachment to Tak is an important part of her personal story), Hamura is menacing (and in the meantime he knows that he's just a puppet) and Tak is lost in his thoughts, then he shows a glimpse of determination (his whole past eats him up inside). The only exception is Kuroiwa who just walks away like he thinks about business and you cannot get a read of him. It reminds me a bit of Ace Attorney's Magatama system (and this game refers AA series a few times): whoever holds a secret, they bear a lock on their heart. In the AA game there are two kinds of locks: red ones and black ones. Red ones can be opened up with right options, but black ones hide deep, dark secrets that the bearer may not even be aware of or not may be ready to face it. Kuroiwa's presentation reminds me of those black locks. And, if we stick to the smoke = something eats them up inside theory, it's interesting that at the beginning Tak arrives from the smoke: he rebuilt himself to become the Tak we know in the game after the events of his last trial. These are my thoughts, not satisfied with them, but this is the most I was able to gather. :)

I actually figured out the main antagonist pretty early in the game cause I went back to watch this intro. While it made sense why some people appeared in the intro, I was kinda wondering what was Kuroiwa’s importance in the story, instead of Shono or any other doctor he appeared. Also Since he was a legit detective working for the police and Tak was freelance I thought they’d make a great foil for each other, and thought he’d be great rival for Tak, as both competed to find the mole but he just appeared and taunted Tak. So I thought he had to be the mole since he really didn’t have much importance in the story so far besides being an asshole.

I really enjoy the game, the story is amazing, it felt like a detective TV series. I like how the story is serious while side missions are funny. I'm doing the Legend difficulty run now.
